Pantone™ PMS 2271 U

PMS 2271 U is a Pantone Matching System color code that defines a visual color target. When you order a PMS 2271 U paint match, you are ordering paint mixed to visually match the Pantone reference, not an official Pantone ink, formula, or manufacturing specification.

The Pantone code communicates the intended color appearance, but it does not define sheen, texture, substrate behavior, or coating performance. Final appearance will depend on factors such as sheen, application method, surface preparation, and lighting.

Sheen selection affects how PMS 2271 U is perceived. Higher sheens reflect more light and can make the color appear brighter and more saturated, while lower sheens reduce reflection and can soften the appearance.

Choose sheen based on viewing distance, lighting, and substrate. For brand displays and signage viewed at a distance, moderate sheens are often easier to approve visually. For close-up viewing, consider how surface texture and gloss may highlight imperfections. If color accuracy is critical, testing PMS 2271 U in the intended sheen is recommended before final production.

Always compare PMS 2271 U samples under consistent lighting, ideally matching the lighting where the final piece will be installed. Differences in light source can significantly change how the color is perceived.

Evaluate samples on the same or similar substrate whenever possible, and allow the coating to fully dry and cure before approval. Comparing a wet sample or a sample on a different surface can lead to incorrect conclusions about color accuracy.

Proper surface preparation helps PMS 2271 U appear uniform and consistent. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust, oils, or residues that could interfere with adhesion.

Light scuffing may be appropriate on smooth surfaces to promote bonding, followed by cleaning to remove debris. Because saturated Pantone colors can be sensitive to substrate differences, applying a small test area first is a practical way to confirm coverage and appearance before full application.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
