PMS 2256 U is a Pantone PMS color defined as a saturated blue-green with a cool, contemporary character. It supports brand-driven projects that rely on clear, energetic color communication.
Color characteristicsThe color sits at a mid-range lightness with an LRV of 44.5 and presents a cool blue-green appearance. Its high saturation and clean undertone give it strong visual impact without noticeable dullness.
Finish and lighting can influence perceived intensity, with glossier surfaces amplifying brightness and depth. The color maintains a crisp look when applied over well-prepared, evenly primed surfaces.
Practical applicationPMS 2256 U performs well in marketing displays, signage, and fabricated components where brand accuracy is a priority. Due to its saturation, additional coats may be needed for uniform appearance, and lighter primers can help reduce show-through on darker substrates.
Evaluating the color under intended lighting and on the actual substrate can help confirm appearance before full application.
Similar colors:
PMS 2249 U: slightly lighter and less saturated, with a softer blue-green appearance.
PMS 2255 U: darker and deeper, with increased visual weight and reduced brightness.
PMS 2260 U: more blue-leaning and cooler, with less green influence.

Pantone PMS 2256 U includes a series suffix that identifies the reference standard used to define the color. Pantone codes can exist in different series, and the suffix is part of the color identifier, not an optional detail.
When ordering paint matched to PMS 2256 U, confirm that your brand standards or source documentation specify the same suffix. Ordering the same number with a different series reference can result in a visibly different color target.
Pantone PMS 2256 U can be matched into paint for use on plastics, but plastics vary widely in surface chemistry and adhesion behavior. Some plastics may require a specific primer or surface preparation for the paint to bond properly.
Before full production, test the PMS 2256 U paint on the actual plastic substrate you plan to use. This helps confirm adhesion, appearance, and durability for your specific material.
Yes. Changing the finish can make PMS 2256 U appear different even when the color match target is the same. Glossier finishes often look brighter and more saturated, while matte finishes can appear softer or less vivid.
This is a perception effect, not a mismatch. If your project involves brand approvals or side-by-side comparisons, evaluate PMS 2256 U samples in the intended finish before finalizing production.
Sampling PMS 2256 U is recommended for high-visibility brand projects, large installations, or situations where lighting, substrate, or finish could affect how the color is perceived.
Sampling allows stakeholders to review the color on the actual material and under real lighting conditions, reducing approval risk before committing to a full production order.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 2256 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 2256 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
