PMS 7420 U is a Pantone PMS color used as a standardized visual reference for brand and identity systems. It presents a bold, dense red impression that reads as dramatic, assertive, and visually concentrated rather than bright or playful.
The color appears very dark, with a low LRV of 9.01. It shows a warm red tendency with high saturation, giving it strong presence and depth. A subtle blue-red undertone adds richness and helps reduce orange shift.
PMS 7420 U works well in controlled brand environments where lighting and finish are selected to support deep, saturated colors. Its low lightness and high saturation mean it can show unevenness if applied over contrasting substrates, so priming and consistent film build can help achieve a uniform appearance. Compared to lighter reds, it reads heavier and more contained, with less apparent brightness under low light.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Pantone PMS 7420 U is a visual color target, not a fixed paint formula. To keep results consistent across repeat orders, use the same paint type, sheen, and application method each time. Changing from spray paint to a different format, or changing sheen, can shift how the color is perceived even if the Pantone reference stays the same.
For brand-critical work, keep an approved physical sample from the first run and evaluate future orders against that same reference under similar lighting. This approach helps manage normal batch-to-batch variation and avoids surprises when projects are produced at different times.
Start by selecting the paint format that fits your application, such as spray paint or another available option. Next, choose the sheen carefully, since sheen has a direct impact on how Pantone PMS 7420 U will look once applied.
Confirm your quantity and review all selections before checkout. Because Pantone colors are matched visually, accuracy depends on ordering the correct product type and finish the first time. If the project is brand-critical or large scale, consider ordering a sample to approve before committing to full production.
Pantone PMS 7420 U is commonly used for brand-facing elements in pop-ups, retail displays, and marketing installations where visual color alignment is important. Durability needs depend on the paint type you choose, so select a product appropriate for the expected handling and exposure.
Lighting can significantly affect how this color appears in a retail environment. Always evaluate a sample of PMS 7420 U under the actual installed lighting and on the intended substrate before full rollout, especially for high-visibility brand surfaces.
Sheen choice directly affects how Pantone PMS 7420 U is perceived. Higher sheens reflect more light, which can make the color appear brighter and more saturated, while lower sheens can appear deeper or more muted.
Select sheen based on viewing distance, lighting conditions, and the surface being coated. For close-viewed brand elements, sheen differences are more noticeable, so it is often best to approve the exact sheen with a sample before placing a larger order.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 7420 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
