Pantone™ PMS 698 U

PMS 698 U is a Pantone Matching System reference color, and the Pantone book is the visual standard. When PMS 698 U is produced as paint, some difference from the book is normal because the book is printed on paper while paint is applied to a substrate and has a specific sheen.

Finish, surface texture, and lighting can all change how PMS 698 U appears compared to the Pantone book. For accurate evaluation, view the painted sample under the same lighting and on the same material where it will be used, rather than expecting a perfect visual match in all conditions.

The choice between matte and gloss can noticeably change how PMS 698 U is perceived. Gloss finishes tend to increase visual punch and saturation but can introduce glare under strong lighting. Matte finishes reduce reflections and glare but may appear slightly softer or less vivid.

Consider viewing distance and lighting. For displays with controlled lighting or where maximum color impact is needed, gloss may be preferred. For close viewing or environments with bright, uneven lighting, matte can provide a more consistent appearance.

Like many Pantone PMS colors with noticeable saturation, PMS 698 U may require additional coats to achieve uniform coverage and consistent appearance. Hide can vary based on substrate color, surface preparation, and application method.

For best results, start with a suitable base and plan for multiple thin coats rather than one heavy coat. This approach helps achieve even color development and reduces the risk of streaking or patchiness.

Sampling PMS 698 U is recommended for high-visibility brand projects, large installations, or any situation requiring formal brand approval. It is especially important when the final appearance will be influenced by specific substrates, lighting conditions, or finish choices.

A sample allows you to confirm color appearance, coverage, and finish under real conditions before committing to a full order, helping reduce approval risk and unexpected visual differences.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
