PMS 668 U is a Pantone Matching System color that presents as a deep purple with a cool, magenta-leaning character. It conveys a serious, bold, and concentrated visual tone often selected for high-impact brand environments where darker chromatic colors are appropriate.
The color appears very dark, with an LRV of 9.01, giving it substantial visual weight. It reads as cool overall, with moderate-to-high saturation and a subtle magenta undertone that can shift with lighting conditions.
PMS 668 U works well in brand-driven displays, signage, and fabricated elements where controlled lighting and smooth substrates support even color development. Its dark value can reduce apparent coverage, so additional coats or a suitable primer may help achieve uniform results, especially over lighter or uneven surfaces.
Similar colors:
PMS 667 U: slightly lighter and less dense, with a softer purple presence.
PMS 669 U: darker and heavier, with reduced magenta clarity.
PMS 2597 U: more chromatic and vivid, with a brighter violet emphasis.

Pantone PMS 668 U is a visual color standard, not a fixed paint formula. When you reorder, staying with the same product type and sheen is the most important step for consistent results.
For critical brand work, keep the same approval approach each time, such as approving a sprayed sample or physical reference under your typical lighting. Changing paint format, finish, or substrate can shift how PMS 668 U appears even if the target color is the same.
If you are unsure which paint format is best for PMS 668 U, contact MyPerfectColor before ordering. Share details about your substrate, whether the piece will be handled or exposed, and the finish you want.
This information helps determine whether spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, or another format will produce the most reliable visual match for your specific application.
Finish has a noticeable impact on how PMS 668 U is perceived. Glossier finishes typically appear darker and more saturated, while matte finishes can look lighter or slightly muted.
Because Pantone standards are viewed on paper under controlled conditions, evaluating PMS 668 U on your actual substrate and chosen sheen is recommended for brand-critical displays.
When applying PMS 668 U spray paint, multiple light coats generally produce more even color and smoother appearance than heavy passes.
Allow proper flash time between coats so the color builds gradually. This approach helps reduce blotchiness and supports more uniform coverage, which is especially important for saturated Pantone colors.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 668 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
