Pantone™ PMS 665 U

PMS 665 U is a Pantone PMS color reference, and the finish you choose can noticeably change how it looks once applied. A gloss finish will usually make PMS 665 U appear brighter and slightly more saturated because it reflects more light. A satin or semi-gloss finish tends to balance brightness and depth, which is often easier to evaluate under mixed lighting. A matte finish will absorb more light, making PMS 665 U look softer and sometimes darker than expected.

If visual brand accuracy is critical, choose the finish first and evaluate a sample in that exact finish. Changing sheen after approval can result in a visible shift even if the color match to PMS 665 U is technically the same.

PMS 665 U can be produced in paint types intended for interior or exterior use, but the choice should be based on where the painted item will live. For interior brand displays, exhibits, or prototypes, interior-rated paint is typically sufficient and easier to control for appearance. For outdoor signage or installations exposed to sun, moisture, or temperature changes, an exterior-rated paint is the better choice for durability.

The Pantone PMS code defines the color target, not the paint chemistry. When ordering PMS 665 U, select interior or exterior based on exposure conditions, then confirm the appearance with a sample if the project is high visibility.

PMS 665 U can shift in appearance depending on lighting type and viewing conditions. Daylight, LED, fluorescent, and warm interior lighting all interact differently with the pigments used to match Pantone colors. This can make PMS 665 U appear cooler, warmer, lighter, or darker even when the paint itself has not changed.

For brand-critical applications, always review PMS 665 U under the same lighting where it will be used. This helps avoid surprises caused by metamerism, where a color match looks correct in one light source but different in another.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
