PMS 656 U is a Pantone PMS color used as a standardized reference for consistent brand color reproduction. It reads as a light, airy blue with a calm and understated visual presence.
The color has a high lightness, with an LRV of 72.09, and a cool blue-violet tendency. Its low to moderate saturation keeps it visually soft rather than bold.
This color performs well on larger surfaces where a clean, open blue is needed without strong contrast. Uniform priming and careful surface preparation can help maintain even appearance, as lighting and finish choices can influence perceived coolness.
Similar colors:
PMS 657 U: lighter and more open, with a softer, airier appearance.
PMS 655 U: darker and slightly more saturated, with increased visual weight.
PMS 656 C: similar hue but typically appears cleaner and slightly crisper in finish.

Ordering PMS 656 U paint means you are purchasing paint custom matched to the Pantone PMS 656 U color target. Pantone PMS is a visual color reference used to communicate color intent across vendors and materials.
It is not a paint formula, coating system, or finish specification. The Pantone code defines the color appearance, while the paint type, sheen, and application method determine performance and durability. The result is a best visual match to the PMS 656 U reference, not an identical reproduction across all materials and conditions.
Yes, PMS 656 U can be produced in both interior and exterior paint types, but you must choose the product based on where it will be used. Interior paints are designed for controlled environments, while exterior paints are formulated to handle sunlight, moisture, and temperature changes.
The Pantone color itself does not determine suitability. When ordering PMS 656 U, select the paint type that matches the exposure and performance needs of your project to avoid premature fading or failure.
PMS 656 U does not have a reliable, exact equivalent in other paint brand color systems. Pantone PMS colors are independent standards, and most paint manufacturers develop their own unique palettes.
Any cross-reference is an approximation and may differ noticeably, especially under different lighting or finishes. For brand-critical work, it is best to order paint matched directly to the PMS 656 U reference rather than relying on a named equivalent from another brand.
The Safety Data Sheet is based on the specific paint product and chemistry, not the PMS 656 U color code itself. The same Pantone color can be made in different paint types, each with its own SDS.
After selecting the paint format for your PMS 656 U order, the corresponding SDS can be found in the SDS library for that product. Always review the SDS for the exact paint type you are using.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 656 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 656 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
