Pantone™ PMS 655 U

Pantone PMS 655 U is a visual color reference, not a paint formula. For prototypes and concept models, choose a paint format that fits how the model will be handled and viewed, such as spray paint for even coverage on display parts or brush-in-cap bottles for small components.

Plan an evaluation step before final approval. Apply the color to the actual substrate, let it fully dry, and review it under the same lighting where the prototype will be shown. This helps confirm that PMS 655 U reads correctly in context before committing to larger quantities.

The SDS is tied to the specific paint product and chemistry, not to the Pantone PMS 655 U color code itself. Once you select a paint type, such as spray paint, epoxy, or urethane, the corresponding SDS is provided for that product.

After ordering or selecting a product format, look for the SDS in the SDS library for that product line. Always reference the SDS for the exact paint type you are using, even when the color target is PMS 655 U.

The appearance of PMS 655 U can shift depending on lighting type, intensity, and viewing angle. Different light sources can emphasize or mute certain tones, which can change how the color is perceived even when the paint match is accurate.

Evaluate PMS 655 U under the lighting where it will actually be used, such as retail, exhibit, or studio lighting. Reviewing a sample in the real environment reduces surprises and helps align visual expectations with stakeholders.

When applying PMS 655 U across larger surfaces, consistency is critical. Use the same application method, coat thickness, and drying time across the entire area to avoid visible variation.

Highly saturated Pantone colors can require additional coats to achieve uniform hide. Plan coverage accordingly, and if the project is high visibility, apply a test panel first to confirm appearance and uniformity before full application.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
