Pantone™ PMS 579 U

PMS 579 U is a Pantone reference target, not a fixed paint formula, so small batch-to-batch variation is normal. To keep results as consistent as possible, reorder the same product type and sheen each time and avoid switching formats or finishes between runs.

For repeat projects, use the same approval approach every time, such as approving a physical sample under the same lighting and on the same substrate. Changing any of those variables can make PMS 579 U appear different even if the Pantone target has not changed.

The choice between matte and gloss can significantly change how PMS 579 U looks. Matte finishes reduce glare and can look more controlled in bright lighting, but they may slightly mute saturation. Gloss finishes increase visual punch and perceived richness, but reflections can affect how the color is seen at different angles.

Consider where and how PMS 579 U will be viewed. Viewing distance, lighting intensity, and surrounding surfaces all influence whether matte or gloss is the better choice. When brand accuracy matters, reviewing a sample in the intended finish is strongly recommended.

When approving PMS 579 U, compare samples under consistent, neutral lighting and on the same substrate whenever possible. Differences in lighting temperature or surface texture can make the color appear lighter, darker, or more saturated.

Allow the paint or coating to fully dry or cure before making a final judgment. Evaluating PMS 579 U too early can lead to incorrect decisions, especially when sheen and coverage affect the final appearance.

When matching PMS 579 U on metal or powder-coated surfaces, surface preparation matters. Existing coatings, surface texture, and underlying color can all influence how the final color appears.

Gloss level and coating thickness can shift the visual result, so a sample on the actual metal substrate is the best way to confirm acceptability. This is especially important for brand-facing components where PMS 579 U needs to look consistent across different materials.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
