PMS 573 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a visual color target within the Pantone Matching System. It presents as a soft, restrained blue-green with a calm, professional character that reads clean and unobtrusive in brand-facing environments.

The color reads as light, with an LRV of 70.03, and shows a cool tendency that leans toward blue-green. Its low to moderate saturation and subtle gray undertone reduce visual intensity and help maintain a composed, neutral appearance.

PMS 573 U works well in environments where brand color needs to feel calm, modern, and non-dominant, particularly across larger surfaces or secondary brand elements. Because of its lightness and muted chroma, careful surface preparation and consistent application can help achieve an even result, and finish or lighting conditions may shift how cool or neutral the color appears.

Similar colors:

PMS 572 U: slightly lighter and more open, with less gray influence.
PMS 574 U: darker and more grounded, with increased visual weight.
PMS 559 U: lighter and more neutral, with a softer green presence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 573 U

What does using Pantone PMS 573 U mean for creating a consistent brand experience?

Pantone PMS 573 U is a standardized color reference used to communicate an exact brand color target. When your brand standards specify PMS 573 U, the intent is visual consistency across marketing materials, displays, signage, and environments.

The PMS code defines the color appearance, not a specific paint formula or finish. When ordering paint matched to PMS 573 U, the goal is to visually align with the Pantone reference under typical viewing conditions so brand elements look consistent across vendors and materials.

How should I choose an interior or exterior paint type for Pantone PMS 573 U?

The Pantone PMS 573 U color reference stays the same, but the paint type should be selected based on where the painted item will be used. For indoor displays, exhibits, or prototypes, interior paint types are typically appropriate. For items exposed to weather, sunlight, or temperature changes, an exterior-rated paint is the better choice.

Selecting the correct paint type ensures performance for the environment while keeping PMS 573 U as the visual color target. The color match focuses on appearance, not on making interior and exterior paints chemically identical.

What is the best way to approve a Pantone PMS 573 U paint match before production?

When reviewing a PMS 573 U paint match, compare samples under consistent lighting and on the same substrate whenever possible. Differences in lighting or material can make the color appear lighter, darker, or more muted than expected.

Allow painted samples to fully dry and cure before approval. Fresh paint can shift slightly as it dries, and approving too early can lead to surprises once the final pieces are complete.

Will Pantone PMS 573 U require special planning for coverage or undercoats?

Like many Pantone brand colors, PMS 573 U may require multiple coats to achieve uniform coverage, especially on contrasting substrates. Saturation and brightness can influence how well the color hides the surface underneath.

Using an appropriate undercoat or primer can improve uniformity and reduce the number of finish coats needed. Planning for coverage upfront helps avoid uneven appearance on brand-facing displays and visual elements.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 573 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 573 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 573 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The need for primer for Pantone PMS 573 U depends on the type of paint, the substrate being painted and where it will be located. See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 573 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 573 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
