PMS 574 U is a Pantone PMS color defined by its very dark olive green appearance and muted visual character. It conveys an earthy, restrained, and utilitarian tone that aligns well with brand systems requiring seriousness and minimal visual emphasis.
The color reads very dark, with an LRV of 6.66, and leans warm due to its yellow-olive bias. Its saturation remains low to moderate, and the undertone shows a muted olive character with subtle brown influence.
PMS 574 U performs best in controlled brand environments where darker greens support a functional or serious aesthetic. Even surface preparation and consistent application help maintain uniformity, as its depth can mask or exaggerate surface variation depending on finish and lighting.
The following examples reflect commonly cited branding associations and are based on publicly referenced design usage; they are illustrative, not exhaustive or exclusive. The color is widely cited as aligned with military and defense visual systems, particularly olive drab traditions, and is commonly referenced in outdoor and environmental branding contexts that emphasize restraint and durability.
Similar colors:
PMS 574 C: slightly cleaner and more defined, with a less muted olive character.
PMS 575 U: lighter and more open, with reduced depth and visual weight.
PMS 576 U: greener and less brown, appearing clearer at similar darkness.

PMS 574 U is a Pantone Matching System color that defines a visual color target, not a universal paint formula. Most paint manufacturers use their own proprietary color systems, pigments, and binders, so a direct one-to-one conversion is rarely exact.
This is especially true for Pantone colors used in branding and displays, where saturation and undertone are critical. Any suggested equivalent in another brand should be treated as an approximation and visually approved, not assumed to be an exact match to PMS 574 U.
Choosing the right paint type for PMS 574 U depends on how and where the color will be used. Important factors include the substrate, whether the piece is indoors or outdoors, the desired finish or sheen, and how the surface will be handled or viewed.
If you are unsure, MyPerfectColor can help guide the decision. Providing details about your application, exposure, and visual expectations allows the color to be matched into an appropriate spray paint or other paint format that supports accurate brand presentation.
Yes. The perceived appearance of PMS 574 U can shift based on surface texture. Smooth surfaces tend to reflect light more evenly, while textured or uneven substrates create shadows that can make the color appear darker, lighter, or less saturated.
For brand-facing applications, it is recommended to evaluate PMS 574 U on the actual substrate and texture being used. This helps ensure the final appearance aligns with brand expectations under real viewing conditions.
When applying PMS 574 U as a spray paint, multiple light coats generally produce a more even and controlled result than a single heavy coat. Thin coats help manage coverage and reduce the risk of runs, striping, or uneven color build.
Allow proper flash time between coats so solvents can escape and the color can level correctly. This approach supports more consistent color appearance, which is important when matching a Pantone brand color.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 574 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 574 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
