PMS 4975 U is a Pantone PMS color identified within the Pantone Matching System and is commonly specified where deep, controlled color presence is required. It presents a grounded, restrained, and formal vibe with an emphasis on depth, subtle warmth, and visual gravity.

The color appears extremely dark with an LRV of 2.3, reading as warm-leaning rather than neutral black. It exhibits low saturation and a deep brown undertone that becomes more apparent under stronger lighting. Finish choice can influence perception, with higher sheens increasing warmth and contrast.

PMS 4975 U works well in brand environments that require seriousness, contrast control, or a subdued backdrop that does not compete with brighter brand elements. Lighting conditions and careful surface preparation can help maintain a uniform appearance due to its very low lightness. Compared to lighter browns, it carries more visual weight and can appear nearly black from a distance.

Similar colors:

Pantone PMS 4975 C: slightly deeper and denser in appearance, with less visible warmth.
Pantone PMS 4695 U: lighter and more openly brown, with reduced visual weight.
Pantone PMS 476 U: darker and cooler, with a more neutral brown-black character.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 4975 U

How is Pantone PMS 4975 U typically used for signs, displays, and exhibits?

Pantone PMS 4975 U is a brand color target used to communicate an exact visual goal for fabricated signs, displays, and exhibit elements. It is not a paint formula. When you order PMS 4975 U paint, the goal is to visually match the Pantone reference as closely as possible on your chosen material.

Because substrates and lighting affect appearance, many teams create a physical sample of PMS 4975 U on the actual material before full production. This helps confirm that the color meets brand expectations once installed.

Will PMS 4975 U look different if I change the paint finish?

Yes. PMS 4975 U can appear different when applied in matte, satin, or gloss finishes even if the color match target is the same. Higher gloss levels often look darker and more saturated, while matte finishes can appear lighter or flatter.

This is a normal perception effect and not a mismatch. When finish matters for approval, it is best to review PMS 4975 U samples in the same sheen and lighting where the final piece will be used.

How much area does one spray can of PMS 4975 U usually cover?

As a general planning estimate, one standard spray can of PMS 4975 U covers about 10 to 15 square feet. Actual coverage depends on surface texture, application technique, and how many coats are needed.

Darker and more saturated Pantone colors like PMS 4975 U may require additional coats for even color and hide, especially on light or porous surfaces. Ordering extra material helps avoid delays if more coverage is needed.

What product formats are available for a PMS 4975 U Pantone match?

PMS 4975 U is available as custom spray paint and other paint formats for branding and display applications. Common options include spray paint, paint pens, and brush-in-cap bottles.

Spray paint is typically chosen for larger surfaces and even visual coverage, while pens or brush-in-cap bottles are useful for small graphics, edges, or detailed work. Selecting the right format depends on the size of the piece, surface type, and application method.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 4975 U?

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 4975 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 4975 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 4975 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
