PMS 469 U is a Pantone PMS color commonly specified as a deep brown reference in brand and display work, conveying a grounded, serious, earthy, dense, and understated visual character.

The color appears very dark with an LRV of 5.1 and reads as warm due to its yellow-brown bias. It shows moderate saturation and carries an earthy undertone that can shift with lighting and finish.

PMS 469 U works well when a deep brown is needed to anchor a palette or reduce visual reflectance in brand-facing elements. Because of its low lightness, careful surface preparation and even application can help avoid patchiness, and sheen differences may be more noticeable under strong lighting.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Similar colors:

PMS 462 U: darker and more neutral, with slightly less warmth.
PMS 463 U: lighter and warmer, with more open brown character.
PMS 476 U: darker and cooler, with a more muted brown appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 469 U

How is Pantone PMS 469 U typically used in brand and marketing applications?

Pantone PMS 469 U is used as a color reference in brand standards when a consistent visual target is required across vendors and materials. In marketing, display fabrication, and branded environments, the PMS code communicates the intended color appearance rather than a specific paint formula. When ordering PMS 469 U paint, the goal is visual alignment to the Pantone reference under expected lighting and viewing conditions, not a material-specific or repair match.

Can I expedite production for Pantone PMS 469 U paint if I have a tight deadline?

Yes. Expedited production may be available for Pantone PMS 469 U at checkout when timing is critical. Because Pantone matched paints are custom produced, lead times can vary by product type and quantity. If you have a fixed installation or event date, contact MyPerfectColor before ordering to confirm whether your deadline can be met with standard or expedited production.

Why does Pantone PMS 469 U look different on different materials?

Pantone PMS 469 U can appear different across substrates due to absorption, surface texture, and reflectivity. Smooth, sealed materials tend to show cleaner color, while porous or textured surfaces may darken or mute the appearance. Sheen and lighting also affect perception. For brand-critical projects, evaluate PMS 469 U on the actual material and finish used in the final build before full production.

What should I know before using Pantone PMS 469 U paint on plastics or low-energy surfaces?

Plastics and other low-surface-energy materials vary widely in how well they accept paint. Pantone PMS 469 U can be matched in compatible coatings, but proper adhesion may require a specific primer or surface preparation. Always test on the exact plastic used in your project to confirm adhesion, coverage, and final appearance before committing to full production.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 469 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 469 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 469 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 469 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 469 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
