Pantone™ PMS 463 U

Pantone PMS 463 U includes a series suffix that identifies the Pantone reference condition. The suffix matters because Pantone colors can appear different depending on the series used as the visual target.

Before ordering, confirm that PMS 463 U is the exact reference specified in your brand standards or project documentation. If your source lists a different suffix for the same number, verify which one is required so the match is evaluated against the correct Pantone standard.

Sheen affects how Pantone PMS 463 U is perceived once applied. Glossier finishes tend to reflect more light and can make the color appear deeper or more saturated, while flatter finishes scatter light and can appear slightly lighter.

Choose sheen based on viewing distance, lighting, and substrate. For close viewing or controlled lighting, sheen differences are more noticeable. For larger elements viewed from a distance, sheen can influence overall brightness and uniformity. When brand accuracy is critical, evaluate a sample of PMS 463 U in the intended sheen before full production.

When approving a PMS 463 U match, compare the paint sample to the Pantone reference under consistent lighting. Differences in light source can significantly change how the color appears.

Evaluate samples on the same or a similar substrate as the final application, and allow the coating to fully dry and cure before making a decision. Reviewing multiple samples side by side under the same conditions helps reduce approval risk.

Primer requirements for a PMS 463 U matched paint depend on the substrate, paint type, and exposure conditions. Some surfaces need primer for proper adhesion or uniform color appearance, while others may not.

Using the recommended primer can help improve coverage and reduce the number of coats, especially for darker or more saturated Pantone colors. If you are unsure, review the primer guidance for your specific substrate or confirm before ordering to avoid performance issues.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
