Pantone™ PMS 412 U

Pantone PMS 412 U spray paint is intended for visual brand accuracy, not as a guaranteed durability standard. Longevity depends on surface preparation, the paint type selected, whether a clear topcoat is used, and the exposure conditions.

For indoor brand displays, signage, and short to mid-term installations, a standard Pantone matched spray paint is usually sufficient when applied to a properly prepared substrate. For outdoor or high-contact environments, selecting a more durable paint system and adding a compatible clear coat can improve resistance to wear and handling.

Because Pantone PMS colors define a color target rather than a performance specification, always choose the paint type based on where and how the PMS 412 U color will be used.

Whether a primer is needed for Pantone PMS 412 U depends on the substrate, the paint format, and the exposure conditions. Bare metals, plastics, and porous surfaces typically require a primer to ensure proper adhesion and consistent color appearance.

If you are painting over an existing coated surface that is clean, sanded, and compatible, a primer may not be necessary. However, skipping primer can affect hide, especially with darker or low-LRV colors like PMS 412 U.

If you are unsure, using the recommended primer for your selected paint type is the safest way to reduce adhesion issues and uneven coverage.

For pop-ups and retail environments, Pantone PMS 412 U should be evaluated under the actual lighting conditions where it will be installed. Lighting temperature and intensity can noticeably change how darker, muted Pantone colors appear.

Sampling is strongly recommended before large production runs. Apply the PMS 412 U paint to the same material and finish that will be used in the final installation and review it on site.

For installations with foot traffic or frequent handling, choose a paint type and optional clear coat that matches the expected wear timeframe of the activation.

To order Pantone PMS 412 U, start by selecting the paint format that fits your project, such as spray paint or another available option. Next, choose the sheen level, as sheen can affect how the color is perceived.

Confirm the quantity based on coverage needs and the substrate being painted. Dark, low-LRV colors like PMS 412 U may require additional coats for uniform appearance.

Before finalizing your order, verify that the selected paint type aligns with your environment and durability expectations, since the Pantone code defines the color reference but not the coating performance.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
