Pantone™ PMS 390 U

When approving a PMS 390 U paint match, compare samples under consistent lighting and on the same substrate whenever possible. Different lighting types can shift how saturated Pantone colors appear, so evaluate under the lighting where the finished piece will be used. Allow the paint to fully dry and cure before judging color, as PMS 390 U can change slightly as solvents flash off. Avoid comparing a wet sample to a printed Pantone guide or to samples with different finishes.

PMS 390 U paint is custom mixed to order, so production time is separate from shipping transit time. Transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you select at checkout. If PMS 390 U is needed for a scheduled brand rollout, display build, or approval deadline, plan extra time for both production and delivery. Ordering early helps reduce risk when working against fixed marketing or installation dates.

Finish choice has a noticeable effect on how PMS 390 U is perceived. Glossier finishes typically appear brighter and more saturated, while matte or flat finishes can look softer and slightly muted. Satin finishes often fall in between. When brand accuracy is critical, evaluate PMS 390 U in the same finish that will be used in the final application, since sheen differences alone can make an approved color appear mismatched in real-world use.

When applying PMS 390 U to metal or over an existing powder coat, surface preparation matters. Clean and scuff the surface as needed so the new coating can adhere evenly. Existing color, gloss level, and texture can influence how PMS 390 U appears once applied. Because Pantone colors can react differently on metal than on other substrates, it is strongly recommended to spray a test sample on the actual material before committing to a full production run.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
