PMS 361 U is a Pantone PMS color specified within the Pantone Matching System and commonly referenced for brand-led applications requiring strong visual presence. The color conveys a bright, energetic, attention-forward vibe with a fresh, modern character and clear green bias.

The color has a mid-range lightness with an LRV of 30.41 and reads as cool-leaning due to its strong green direction. It exhibits very high saturation and strong chroma, with a yellow-green undertone that keeps it vivid rather than muted.

PMS 361 U performs best in brand-facing displays, signage, and marketing installations where vivid color recognition is required. Because of its saturation, it often benefits from careful surface preparation and may require additional coats to achieve uniform coverage, with lighting and finish significantly influencing appearance.

The following examples reflect commonly cited branding associations and are based on publicly referenced design usage; they are illustrative, not exhaustive or exclusive. The color is widely cited as a bright green associated with BP branding in environmental and energy-related contexts, and it is commonly referenced in branding literature for sports, fitness, and performance-oriented graphics.

Similar colors:
PMS 360 U: slightly lighter and more open, with reduced visual intensity.
PMS 362 U: darker and more grounded, with a less vivid green presence.
PMS 354 U: deeper and cooler, with more blue influence and less yellow brightness.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 361 U

How is Pantone PMS 361 U typically used in brand and marketing applications?

Pantone PMS 361 U is commonly specified in brand standards for marketing graphics, displays, and experiential environments where a vivid green is part of the brand identity. In these cases, the Pantone code serves as the visual reference target, not a paint formula. When ordering paint matched to PMS 361 U, the goal is visual alignment with the Pantone standard under the intended lighting and finish conditions.

Because PMS colors are defined for print and visual reference, it is important to review samples on the actual substrate and at the final scale when the application is high visibility or requires brand approval.

What does the "U" mean in Pantone PMS 361 U, and why does it matter when ordering paint?

The "U" in Pantone PMS 361 U indicates that the color reference comes from the uncoated Pantone series. Pantone colors can vary between coated and uncoated references, even when the number is the same.

When ordering paint, you should confirm that PMS 361 U is the exact reference specified in your brand guidelines or project documentation. Ordering the wrong suffix, such as using a coated reference when an uncoated one is required, can result in a noticeable visual difference.

Can Pantone PMS 361 U be used for both interior and exterior paint projects?

Pantone PMS 361 U can be matched into both interior and exterior paint types, but the paint chemistry should be selected based on where and how it will be used. Interior applications prioritize appearance under controlled lighting, while exterior applications require resistance to weather and sunlight.

The Pantone code defines the color target only. You should choose an interior or exterior paint product based on exposure, durability needs, and substrate, then apply the PMS 361 U color match within that product type.

What is the typical lead time for paint matched to Pantone PMS 361 U?

Paint matched to Pantone PMS 361 U is made to order. Typical production lead time depends on the paint format selected and current production volume.

Most orders are produced within a few business days before shipping, but larger quantities or specialized formats may require additional time. If your project has a fixed deadline, it is recommended to account for production time and shipping when placing your order.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 361 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 361 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 361 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
