PMS 328 U is a Pantone PMS color commonly specified as a brand and identity reference across marketing, display, and design environments. It conveys a cool, saturated, and serious visual tone with a pronounced teal character that reads bold rather than bright.

The color appears dark, with a low Light Reflectance Value (LRV 10.66), and it leans cool with a clear blue-green bias. Its high saturation gives it strong visual density, supported by a blue-forward teal undertone rather than a yellow-green cast.

PMS 328 U works well in brand-facing elements where depth and contrast are important, such as signage, displays, and fabricated components. Its dark, saturated nature can make surface preparation and consistent film build more noticeable, especially in higher-sheen finishes or under directional lighting.

Similar colors:
PMS 327 U: slightly lighter and more open, with less visual weight.
PMS 329 U: darker and more subdued, with reduced chroma.
PMS 321 U: brighter and more cyan-leaning, with higher perceived clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 328 U

What does Pantone PMS 328 U represent for brand and marketing applications?

Pantone PMS 328 U is a standardized Pantone Matching System color used to define an exact visual target for brand experiences. It is a communication reference that helps different vendors reproduce the same color appearance across displays, signage, exhibits, and other branded elements.

The Pantone code defines the intended color, not a specific paint formula, finish, or coating process. When you order PMS 328 U paint, the goal is visual alignment to the Pantone reference for brand consistency, not substrate-specific repair accuracy.

Is there a difference between the name and code when ordering Pantone PMS 328 U?

Yes. The Pantone code PMS 328 U is the authoritative identifier and should always be used when ordering. The number and the suffix matter because different series or paper references can represent different color targets.

Ordering by name alone can lead to the wrong target being produced. For correct results, specify the full code exactly as PMS 328 U so the intended Pantone reference is clear.

If my existing item is described as Pantone PMS 328 U, is Pantone matching the right choice for precise on-part matching?

No. Pantone PMS 328 U should be treated as a brand color reference, not a guarantee of an exact match to an existing painted object. Real-world parts may differ due to age, material, finish, or previous application methods.

If you need match accuracy that is specific to an existing item, the correct path is to send a physical part for evaluation and matching. Pantone-based ordering is best suited for reproducing the intended brand color appearance, not for part-specific matching.

When should I request a sample of Pantone PMS 328 U before full production?

Sampling is recommended when PMS 328 U will be used in high-visibility brand applications, large installations, or projects that require formal approval. Lighting, substrate, and finish can all influence how the color is perceived once applied.

Requesting a sample allows you to review coverage, hide, and visual appearance under real conditions before committing to full production, helping reduce brand risk and approval delays.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 328 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 328 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 328 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The need for primer for Pantone PMS 328 U depends on the type of paint, the substrate being painted and where it will be located. See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 328 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 328 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
