Pantone™ PMS 321 U

PMS 321 U is a Pantone color target, and its appearance can shift based on lighting and viewing conditions. Daylight, LED, fluorescent, and warm interior lighting all have different spectral characteristics, which can change how saturated colors like PMS 321 U are perceived.

To avoid surprises, evaluate a sample of PMS 321 U under the same lighting where it will be displayed or installed. This helps confirm that the color reads correctly in its real environment and reduces approval risk caused by metamerism or lighting-related shifts.

Whether PMS 321 U requires a primer depends on the paint type, the substrate, and the exposure conditions. Smooth, previously coated surfaces may not require primer, while raw metal, plastics, wood, or porous materials often benefit from a compatible primer.

Because PMS 321 U is a vivid, saturated color, proper priming can also improve hide and color uniformity. Review the primer guidance for your selected paint system and substrate before ordering to ensure predictable results.

PMS 321 U defines a color target only. It does not specify sheen, film build, aging, or the original substrate, all of which affect how a finished surface looks. Because of this, a Pantone match cannot reliably blend into an existing coated surface.

For brand-facing applications, PMS 321 U works best when all components are coated together for visual consistency. It should not be used as a proxy for matching or correcting an unknown or aged finish.

To order PMS 321 U, start by selecting the paint format that fits your application, such as spray paint or another available paint type. Next, choose the appropriate sheen and quantity based on your project needs.

Before placing the order, confirm the substrate, primer requirements, and lighting conditions where PMS 321 U will be viewed. These choices help ensure the delivered paint aligns with brand expectations and performs as intended.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
