Pantone™ PMS 323 U

Pantone PMS 323 U is commonly used as a brand-defined color target for signs, displays, and exhibit components where visual alignment to a Pantone standard is required. The Pantone code communicates the intended color, but it is not a paint formula or finish specification.

For fabricated elements, the most reliable approach is to apply PMS 323 U to the actual substrate and review a physical sample. Material type, surface texture, and sheen can all influence how the color appears once applied, especially in exhibit or display lighting.

When applying Pantone PMS 323 U to metal or previously powder-coated parts, surface preparation matters. Existing coatings, gloss level, and surface cleanliness can all affect the final color appearance.

Scuffing and cleaning help create a consistent base, but even with proper prep, the underlying coating and sheen can shift how PMS 323 U is perceived. For critical projects, applying a sample on the prepared metal surface is recommended before committing to a full run.

Pantone PMS 323 U is matched to a Pantone reference standard, which supports repeatability across orders. However, small visual differences can still occur if product type, sheen, or application method changes between runs.

To keep results consistent, reorder the same product format and finish, and base approvals on the same type of physical sample each time. Using the same evaluation lighting and substrate also helps maintain predictable results for future batches.

When covering large areas with Pantone PMS 323 U, uniform application technique is important. Plan for even coat thickness, consistent overlap, and sufficient coverage to avoid patchiness or shadowing.

Saturated Pantone colors can require additional coats to achieve a visually even result, especially on varied substrates. Testing your application approach on a larger sample area can help confirm coverage expectations before full-scale application.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
