PMS 318 U is a Pantone PMS color positioned in the light aqua to blue-green range, presenting a cool, fresh, open, modern, and approachable visual character.

The color has a light appearance with an LRV of 62.18 and reads as cool, leaning blue with a subtle green influence. It shows moderate saturation and carries a soft aqua undertone that keeps it from appearing muted or gray.

This color works well in brand-facing environments where a light, calm tone supports readability and visual openness. Because it is relatively light, uniform priming and careful application can help reduce contrast from underlying surfaces. Lighting and finish choice can influence whether the color appears more blue or more green.

Similar colors:
PMS 317 U: lighter and softer, with a more pastel appearance.
PMS 319 U: darker and slightly stronger, with increased color presence.
PMS 310 U: greener and more energetic, with higher visual intensity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 318 U

How does surface texture affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 318 U when painted?

Pantone PMS 318 U is a visual color target, and surface texture can change how it appears after application. Smooth surfaces reflect light more evenly, which can make PMS 318 U look cleaner and slightly brighter. Textured or porous substrates create micro shadows and uneven reflectivity, which can make the same color appear darker or less saturated.

For brand-facing work, always evaluate PMS 318 U on the actual substrate and finish you plan to use. Texture differences alone can be enough to affect brand acceptance, even when the color formula is correct.

Should I order a sample of Pantone PMS 318 U before final production?

Yes. For Pantone PMS 318 U, ordering a small sample is recommended before committing to a full production run, especially for brand approval workflows. A sample lets you confirm color appearance, coverage, and finish on the real substrate.

Evaluate the sample under the installed lighting conditions and alongside other materials in the environment. This step helps reduce approval risk and avoids costly rework if the color appearance shifts once installed.

Is Pantone PMS 318 U appropriate for prototypes and concept models?

Pantone PMS 318 U is commonly used for prototypes and concept models where visual brand alignment is required. The Pantone code communicates a clear color target across teams and vendors, which is useful during early design and review stages.

Choose a paint format that matches the prototype build method and plan time to review the color on the actual material. For concept work, visual accuracy is the goal, not material-specific matching, so sampling and visual evaluation are key steps.

Where can I find the SDS for paint made in Pantone PMS 318 U?

The Safety Data Sheet is not specific to Pantone PMS 318 U itself. SDS documents are tied to the paint or coating product type, such as spray paint, epoxy, or urethane, rather than the Pantone color code.

After selecting the product format for PMS 318 U, look up the corresponding SDS in the SDS library for that product. This ensures you are reviewing safety information that matches the actual material you are ordering.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 318 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 318 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 318 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 318 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 318 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
