Color summary PMS 2736 U is a Pantone PMS color defined as a precise visual reference for brand and design communication. It presents a bold, cool blue-violet appearance with a dramatic and saturated character that reads confident and intense. Color characteristics The color is very dark, with a low Light Reflectance Value of 4.1, contributing to its strong visual weight. It leans cool with a pronounced blue-violet tendency, remains highly saturated, and maintains a clean violet undertone without noticeable warmth. Practical application PMS 2736 U is well suited to brand-facing applications where depth and intensity are intentional, including signage, displays, and experiential components. Because of its darkness and saturation, it may require additional coats for uniform coverage, and its appearance can shift noticeably with lighting conditions and finish selection. Evaluating a physical sample on the intended substrate under actual lighting helps reduce ordering and approval risk. Similar colors:
PMS 2735 U: slightly lighter and less saturated, with a softer violet presence.
PMS 274 U: darker and more subdued, with reduced chroma and visual intensity.
PMS 2725 U: lighter and cooler, with a more open blue-violet appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2736 U

Why can PMS 2736 U look different on metal, plastic, and wood even when matched to the same Pantone reference?

PMS 2736 U is a Pantone color standard, not a material-specific formula. Different substrates absorb and reflect light differently, which can change how the color appears. Surface texture, porosity, and reflectivity all influence perceived depth and saturation.

For multi-material builds, evaluate PMS 2736 U on each actual substrate used in the final project. This helps confirm whether a standard Pantone match is acceptable or if sampling and approval on each material is needed before full production.

What application approach works best for achieving even coverage with PMS 2736 U spray paint?

PMS 2736 U is a vivid, saturated color, which can make coverage more sensitive to application technique. Multiple light coats typically produce a more uniform appearance than one heavy coat.

Allow each coat to flash off before applying the next. This reduces mottling and helps the color build evenly, especially on large brand-facing surfaces where consistency is critical.

Does the "U" suffix in PMS 2736 U matter when ordering paint?

Yes. The suffix is part of the Pantone reference and indicates the specific standard the color is being matched to. Pantone codes can look similar but reference different printed standards.

Before ordering PMS 2736 U, confirm that this exact code and suffix align with your brand guidelines or project documentation. This avoids receiving a color that is technically correct but not the intended brand reference.

Should PMS 2736 U be ordered in matte or gloss for a brand display?

The finish choice can noticeably affect how PMS 2736 U is perceived. Gloss finishes tend to increase visual punch and saturation but can introduce glare under strong lighting. Matte finishes reduce reflections but may appear slightly softer.

Consider viewing distance, lighting conditions, and approval expectations when choosing a finish. For critical brand applications, testing PMS 2736 U in the intended sheen under actual lighting is recommended.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 2736 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 2736 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 2736 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
