Pantone™ PMS 265 U

Pantone PMS 265 U is a color communication standard, not a finish specification. It does not define sheen, surface texture, film build, or the original substrate conditions of an existing coating. Because of this, a Pantone match can visually align to the color target but still look different next to an aged or previously applied finish.

For projects where visual brand accuracy is the goal, PMS 265 U works well as a target color. For touch-up or repair scenarios where blending into an existing surface is required, a Pantone reference alone is not precise enough to guarantee an acceptable result.

When matching PMS 265 U on metal or over an existing powder coat, surface preparation and the current coating matter. Scuffing, cleaning, and removing contaminants help ensure adhesion, but the existing color, gloss, and texture can still influence how the final color appears.

Pantone matches target the visual color reference, not the original coating system. Differences in gloss level or substrate can make PMS 265 U appear lighter, darker, or more saturated than expected. Reviewing a sample on the actual metal or coated surface is the safest way to confirm acceptability before full production.

Surface texture changes how light reflects from the paint film. On a smooth surface, PMS 265 U may appear cleaner and more vivid. On textured or irregular surfaces, shadows and diffuse reflection can make the same color look darker, less saturated, or uneven.

This effect is normal and does not mean the color match is incorrect. If PMS 265 U must look consistent across different materials or textures, evaluating samples on each surface helps set realistic expectations and avoid surprises.

Start by selecting PMS 265 U as your target color, then choose the paint type that fits your application, such as spray paint or another available format. Next, select the sheen and quantity based on how the painted item will be viewed and used.

Because Pantone is a visual color standard, confirming the match with a sample is recommended for high-visibility or brand-critical projects. Taking time to choose the correct format, sheen, and quantity helps ensure the final PMS 265 U result meets your expectations.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
