PMS 259 U is a Pantone PMS color used as a standardized reference for consistent color communication across vendors and materials. It conveys a bold, dramatic, saturated presence with a cool-leaning, expressive, and attention-holding vibe.

The color appears very dark overall, with an LRV of 5.1. It reads as cool with a purple-magenta bias and maintains high saturation and strong chroma, giving it a vivid, intense appearance. A subtle magenta undertone can become more noticeable under brighter lighting conditions.

PMS 259 U works well in brand-facing displays, signage, and fabricated elements where deep purple clarity is required. Because of its low lightness and saturation, it may benefit from a light or appropriately tinted primer and multiple thin coats to support even coverage and consistent appearance.

Similar colors:
PMS 258 U: slightly lighter and more open, with reduced visual depth.
PMS 260 U: darker and heavier, with increased visual density.
PMS 266 U: brighter and cooler, with more apparent violet clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 259 U

What safety and VOC considerations apply when ordering paint matched to Pantone PMS 259 U?

Pantone PMS 259 U is a color reference, not a finished paint product. Safety, VOC content, and handling requirements depend on the specific paint type and format you choose, such as spray paint, brush-applied coatings, or other systems.

Before use, review the Safety Data Sheet for the exact product you order and follow the manufacturer instructions for ventilation, personal protection, and application conditions. Do not assume safety characteristics based on the Pantone code alone.

How long does it take to receive a Pantone PMS 259 U paint order?

Shipping time for paint matched to Pantone PMS 259 U depends on your location, the paint format selected, and the shipping method chosen at checkout. Transit times are not fixed and can vary by carrier and destination.

If you are working toward a brand launch, installation, or review deadline, allow extra time for production and shipping, or plan to order a sample first to avoid schedule risk.

Why can Pantone PMS 259 U look different on plastic, metal, and wood?

Pantone PMS 259 U defines a visual color target, but the final appearance can change based on the substrate. Absorption, surface texture, and reflectivity all influence how the color is perceived once applied.

For brand-critical projects or multi-material builds, evaluate PMS 259 U on the actual materials and finishes used in the final application. This helps confirm appearance under real lighting and avoids surprises at installation.

Should I choose a matte or gloss finish for Pantone PMS 259 U?

The finish choice affects how PMS 259 U is perceived. Matte finishes reduce glare and can appear deeper or softer, while gloss finishes increase reflectivity and often make saturated colors appear more vivid.

Consider viewing distance, lighting conditions, and brand intent when choosing a finish. For high-visibility displays, testing both finishes on the intended substrate is recommended before placing a full order.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 259 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 259 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 259 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How much area will one spray can cover? And what is Pantone PMS 259 U spray paint made of?

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 259 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. The need for primer for Pantone PMS 259 U depends on the type of paint, the substrate being painted and where it will be located. See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 259 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 259 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
