PMS 219 U is a Pantone PMS color identified within the Pantone Matching System as a highly saturated red-magenta hue. It conveys an energetic, bold, expressive, high-contrast, attention-forward character used where brand visibility is a priority.

The color reads as dark-to-mid value with an LRV of 19.28 and leans warm with a pronounced pink-magenta undertone. Its very high saturation creates strong contrast, and finish and lighting conditions can noticeably influence perceived brightness.

PMS 219 U works well in controlled environments where lighting and surrounding materials are considered early in the design process. Its saturation and lower LRV often benefit from a light primer and multiple coats to achieve uniform coverage, especially over darker or uneven substrates.

The color is commonly specified for brand-facing signage, displays, and exhibit components, as well as marketing installations where immediate visual recognition is required.

The following examples reflect commonly cited branding associations and are based on publicly referenced design usage; they are illustrative, not exhaustive or exclusive. The color family is widely cited in fashion, beauty, and pop-culture branding contexts that rely on expressive pink-magenta tones.

Similar colors:
PMS 219 C: slightly cleaner and brighter, with a more intense coated appearance.
PMS 226 U: deeper and more purple-leaning, with increased visual weight.
PMS 213 U: lighter and softer, with reduced saturation and a more open pink character.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 219 U

What does the 'U' mean in Pantone PMS 219 U, and does it matter when ordering?

In Pantone PMS 219 U, the 'U' indicates the Uncoated Pantone reference. Pantone codes can change appearance depending on whether they are specified as Coated (C) or Uncoated (U). When ordering paint matched to PMS 219 U, you should confirm that your brand standards or source materials explicitly call for the Uncoated reference. If the suffix is unclear or inconsistent across documents, clarify this before ordering to avoid a mismatch against approved Pantone targets.

When is a standard Pantone PMS 219 U match the right choice?

A standard match to Pantone PMS 219 U is appropriate when the Pantone reference itself is the approved color target. This commonly includes brand-facing signage, displays, exhibits, prototypes, and marketing installations where visual alignment to the Pantone system is required. In these cases, the goal is consistency with the Pantone standard rather than matching an existing painted surface or material.

How should Pantone PMS 219 U be evaluated for pop-ups or retail installations?

For pop-ups and retail environments using Pantone PMS 219 U, it is best to evaluate the color under the actual lighting conditions where it will be installed. Lighting can significantly affect how saturated Pantone colors are perceived. Sampling on the intended substrate and reviewing coverage and uniformity before full production helps reduce approval risk, especially for large or highly visible brand elements.

How does sheen choice affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 219 U?

Sheen can change how bright and saturated Pantone PMS 219 U appears. Higher sheen finishes tend to look more vivid and reflective, while lower sheen finishes can soften the color slightly. When choosing a sheen, consider viewing distance, lighting, and the surface being painted. If exact appearance is critical, testing PMS 219 U in the selected sheen before final production is recommended.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 219 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 219 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 219 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 219 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 219 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
