Color summary PMS 179 U is a Pantone PMS color used in brand-focused projects where strong visibility and recognition are required. Its appearance is bold and energetic, with a contemporary character that supports high-impact visual communication.
Color characteristics The color presents as mid-to-dark in value, with an LRV of 20.15, and reads distinctly warm due to its red-orange tendency. It is highly saturated, producing an intense visual presence with a subtle orange undertone that reinforces warmth.
Practical application This color is well suited to controlled brand environments where lighting and finish are selected intentionally. Its high saturation may require additional coats for uniform coverage, particularly over darker substrates, and a light or neutral primer can help manage contrast and improve consistency.

Pantone PMS 179 U is a saturated red, and finish choice will noticeably change how it is perceived. Gloss finishes tend to look brighter and more vivid because they reflect more light. Satin finishes reduce glare and can slightly soften saturation. Matte finishes absorb more light, which can make PMS 179 U appear darker and less intense.
Because the Pantone PMS code defines the color target, not the finish, you should choose the sheen that matches how the color will be viewed in the final environment and evaluate a sample in that finish before committing.
Yes. For brand approval workflows, it is best practice to order a small sample of Pantone PMS 179 U before a large build. This allows stakeholders to review the color on the actual substrate, with the selected finish, under the lighting where it will be installed.
Sampling helps confirm visual acceptance and reduces the risk of rework, especially for high-visibility marketing displays or multi-material projects where color perception can change.
Pantone PMS 179 U can shift in appearance depending on the light source and viewing environment. Warm lighting can emphasize red tones, while cooler or high-output lighting can change perceived brightness and saturation.
To avoid surprises, always evaluate PMS 179 U under the same lighting conditions where it will be used, and view it at typical distances and angles relevant to the installation.
Coverage for spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 179 U depends on surface texture, application method, and the number of coats required. Saturated colors like PMS 179 U may need additional coats for uniform hide, especially on contrasting substrates.
When estimating quantity, consider testing coverage on a sample panel and plan extra material to account for overlap, edge loss, and any re-sprays needed to achieve consistent color.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 179 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
