Pantone™ PMS 174 U

PMS 174 U is a Pantone reference color, not a paint formula. Pantone books are printed standards, while paint is viewed on a real substrate with a specific sheen. Because of that, a painted sample of PMS 174 U can look different from the book chip, especially in brightness and saturation.

For critical brand work, order a small sample and view it on your actual material under your installed lighting. This is the best way to set expectations and confirm acceptance before full production.

PMS 174 U is available as custom spray paint and other paint formats for branding and display applications. Common options include spray paint, paint pens, and brush-in-cap bottles. Some projects may also use coatings such as epoxy or urethane, depending on the surface and durability needs.

Yes. PMS 174 U is commonly used as a brand-standard color target for signs, displays, and exhibit fabrication. In these contexts, the goal is visual alignment with the Pantone reference rather than an exact material match.

Because substrates and finishes vary, it is recommended to sample PMS 174 U on the actual materials being used. This helps confirm color appearance, coverage, and overall visual impact before final fabrication.

Plastics and other low-surface-energy materials vary widely in how they accept paint. PMS 174 U can be matched in paint, but adhesion and appearance depend on the specific plastic and preparation steps.

In many cases, a plastic-specific primer or adhesion promoter is required. Always test the full system, including primer and topcoat, on the actual plastic before committing to production.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
