PMS 1807 U is a Pantone PMS color defined as a dark, warm red with a serious and authoritative visual character. It is typically selected when brand standards call for depth and restraint rather than brightness.

The color has a low Light Reflectance Value of 9.54, giving it a very dark appearance. It leans warm with subtle red-brown undertones and remains strongly saturated while appearing visually dense. In lower or diffuse lighting, it can read heavier and more muted.

PMS 1807 U is well suited to branding, signage, and display elements that require a deep red tone without high brightness. Dark colors like this may benefit from proper priming and even surface preparation to avoid uneven absorption, and lighting conditions should be reviewed to confirm the intended appearance. Lower-sheen finishes can help soften minor surface irregularities, while glossier finishes may make them more noticeable.

Similar colors:
PMS 1805 U: slightly lighter and more open, with less visual density.
PMS 1817 U: darker and more muted, with reduced red clarity.
PMS 7623 U: warmer and browner, with less saturation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 1807 U

How accurate should I expect a paint match to Pantone PMS 1807 U?

Pantone PMS 1807 U is a visual color standard, not a paint formula. Matching it in paint involves translating a printed reference into a liquid coating applied to a surface. Highly saturated Pantone colors can be challenging due to pigment behavior, finish, and substrate. MyPerfectColor produces Pantone matched paint to visually align with the PMS 1807 U reference, but small perceptual differences can occur based on sheen, application method, and lighting. For critical brand approvals, reviewing a sample under your actual lighting and on the intended substrate is recommended.

Does the 'U' in Pantone PMS 1807 U matter when ordering paint?

Yes. The 'U' suffix indicates the Pantone reference series used as the color target. Pantone codes can appear similar but represent different printed standards, and those differences can affect the intended match. When ordering PMS 1807 U, confirm that your brand guidelines or source materials specifically call for the U reference so the paint is matched to the correct Pantone standard.

Do I need a primer before applying Pantone PMS 1807 U paint?

Primer needs depend on the paint type, substrate, and exposure conditions. For Pantone PMS 1807 U, using a compatible primer can improve adhesion and help achieve more uniform color, especially on porous, dark, or previously coated surfaces. A primer is often recommended when consistent appearance and coverage are important for brand-facing applications. If you are unsure, testing the full system on your actual substrate is the safest approach.

What should I consider when applying Pantone PMS 1807 U over a large area?

When using PMS 1807 U over larger areas, plan for consistent application to avoid visible variation. Apply even coats, maintain the same spray distance or technique, and complete panels or sections without stopping mid-surface. Highly saturated Pantone colors may require additional coats to achieve uniform hide. Applying all coats from the same batch and under similar conditions helps maintain a consistent visual result.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 1807 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 1807 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 1807 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
