PMS 169 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a visual reference for brand and design consistency. It presents a warm, approachable character with coral and light red qualities that feel energetic without being overpowering.

The color has a light-to-mid lightness with an LRV of 58.49 and reads clearly warm due to its red-orange direction. Its moderate to moderately high saturation keeps it visually present while remaining softer than deeper reds, with a coral undertone that tempers intensity.

PMS 169 U is well suited to brand-facing displays, signage, and marketing installations where a friendly, open red tone is desired. Lighter, warmer reds often benefit from a light primer and consistent application to support even coverage, and both lighting and finish choice can significantly affect perceived brightness.

Similar colors: PMS 168 U: slightly lighter and softer, with a more pastel coral appearance.
PMS 170 U: darker and more saturated, with increased red intensity.
PMS 1767 U: deeper and more muted, with a stronger pink-red bias.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 169 U

How is Pantone PMS 169 U typically used for signs, displays, and exhibit components?

Pantone PMS 169 U is a Pantone Matching System color used as a visual reference target when fabricating branded signs, displays, and exhibit elements. It communicates the intended color appearance, not a specific paint formula or finish. When ordering paint matched to PMS 169 U, the goal is visual alignment to the Pantone standard rather than material repair matching.

Because substrates, finishes, and lighting affect perception, many sign and exhibit teams approve a physical sample on the actual material before full production. This helps confirm that the PMS 169 U match meets brand expectations in the installed environment.

What basic surface preparation is recommended before applying PMS 169 U matched paint?

For best results with paint matched to Pantone PMS 169 U, start with a clean surface free of dust, oils, and residue. Degreasing is important, especially on plastics or metals used in display fabrication. Where appropriate, lightly scuffing the surface can improve adhesion.

Always apply a small test area first. This confirms adhesion, coverage, and the visual appearance of PMS 169 U on your specific substrate before committing to full application.

What should I expect when reordering Pantone PMS 169 U for future projects?

Pantone PMS 169 U serves as a consistent color target, but exact visual results can vary if product type, sheen, or application method changes. To maintain consistency across reorders, use the same paint type and finish each time and rely on the same approval approach.

For high visibility or brand critical work, keeping a retained sample or approved panel from a prior run can help evaluate future batches against the same PMS 169 U reference under similar lighting conditions.

Where can I find the SDS for paint made in Pantone PMS 169 U?

Safety Data Sheets are based on the paint product and chemistry, not the Pantone color itself. The SDS for a PMS 169 U order will correspond to the specific paint type you select, such as spray paint or another format.

Once you choose the product, the correct SDS can be located in the SDS library for that paint type. The PMS 169 U color match does not change the safety documentation.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 169 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 169 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 169 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 169 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 169 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 169 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
