Pantone™ PMS 170 U

PMS 170 U is a Pantone Matching System reference, not a paint formula. For prototypes and concept models, it works best as a visual target for brand alignment rather than a final production specification.

When ordering paint matched to PMS 170 U, choose the format that matches how the prototype will be evaluated, such as spray paint for uniform surfaces or brush-applied paint for small parts. Plan to review the color on the actual substrate and under the lighting where the concept will be shown, since perception can change outside of printed Pantone guides.

If the prototype requires formal brand approval or will be reviewed alongside other materials, ordering a small sample first is recommended so appearance can be confirmed before committing to larger quantities.

Paint matched to Pantone PMS 170 U is made to order. Lead time depends on the paint type selected, the finish, and current production volume.

Spray paint and common paint formats generally move through production faster than specialty coatings, but all Pantone matches require custom mixing. Because of this, PMS 170 U should not be ordered as a last-minute item for time-critical installs.

For marketing schedules or display builds with fixed deadlines, place your order early and allow time for both production and shipping before the color is needed on site.

The finish you choose can noticeably change how PMS 170 U is perceived. Gloss finishes tend to appear brighter and more saturated, while satin or matte finishes can look slightly softer or darker.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
