PMS 163 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a standardized visual reference for consistent color communication across materials. It presents a warm, earthy orange character with a grounded, approachable presence that reads energetic, friendly, and substantial rather than bright or fluorescent.
The color displays a mid-range lightness with an LRV of 48.29 and leans clearly warm with an orange bias and subtle brown influence. It shows moderate to high saturation, appearing vivid without sharp intensity, and carries a soft earthy undertone that reduces glare.
PMS 163 U works well in brand-facing applications where warmth and visibility are important without pushing into high-brightness orange tones. Because it is moderately saturated, coverage may benefit from a light or neutral primer and multiple thin coats, and finish and lighting can shift how orange or brown the color appears.
The following examples reflect commonly cited branding associations and are based on publicly referenced design usage; they are illustrative, not exhaustive or exclusive. The color family is widely cited in branding literature for food, beverage, and hospitality brands seeking warmth and approachability, and similar tones are commonly referenced in retail and lifestyle brand environments.

Pantone PMS 163 U is a standardized color reference, not a paint formula. Matching it requires visual conversion from the Pantone standard to a specific paint system and substrate. Bright and saturated Pantone colors like PMS 163 U can be more challenging to reproduce exactly, and small shifts can appear under different lighting or on different materials.
MyPerfectColor produces PMS 163 U to visually match the Pantone reference as closely as practical for brand-facing applications. For high-visibility projects or formal brand approval, ordering a sample first is recommended so the color can be evaluated on the actual surface and under real lighting.
Sheen affects how Pantone PMS 163 U is perceived once applied. Higher sheen finishes tend to look brighter and more saturated, while lower sheen finishes can appear slightly softer or darker. The correct choice depends on viewing distance, lighting, and the substrate.
If the color will be viewed up close or under strong lighting, sheen differences will be more noticeable. For brand-critical applications, confirm sheen as part of your sampling process so PMS 163 U is evaluated in its final finish rather than assuming all sheens will look the same.
Yes. Pantone PMS 163 U is commonly specified in brand standards for signs, displays, and exhibit fabrication where visual consistency is required across vendors. Using a Pantone-based match helps ensure different components target the same color reference.
Because substrates and fabrication methods vary, it is best practice to sample PMS 163 U on the actual material being used. This allows fabricators and brand teams to confirm appearance before full production.
When applying Pantone PMS 163 U across large surfaces, uniform coverage is critical. Highly saturated Pantone colors may require additional coats to achieve even hide, especially on lighter or darker substrates.
Plan for consistent application technique, proper flash time between coats, and full coverage across the entire area. Variations in film thickness or application pattern can cause visible shifts in PMS 163 U, particularly under strong or directional lighting.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 163 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
