PMS 162 U is a Pantone PMS color recognized for its light peach appearance and warm, approachable tone. It is commonly specified where a friendly, contemporary color is needed to support brand presence without overpowering other elements.

The color appears light, with an LRV of 64.08, and leans warm with an orange-peach hue direction. It shows moderate saturation and carries a subtle rosy undertone that softens its overall warmth.

PMS 162 U works well when balanced with stronger accents or darker neutrals in brand environments. Because lighter warm colors can reveal surface variation, careful surface preparation, consistent priming, and testing under installed lighting can help confirm the desired appearance.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Similar colors:

PMS 161 U: slightly darker and more subdued, with less overall lightness.
PMS 163 U: warmer and more saturated, with increased orange intensity.
PMS 155 U: lighter and softer, with a more delicate, pastel appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 162 U

How closely should PMS 162 U paint match the Pantone Formula Guide chip?

PMS 162 U is defined by Pantone as a visual reference standard, not as a paint formula. When you compare a painted sample of PMS 162 U to a Pantone book chip, small differences are normal. Printed chips are viewed on paper with a specific ink and finish, while paint is applied to real substrates with a chosen sheen.

For brand-critical projects, the safest approach is to order a sample and review PMS 162 U on your actual material and under your installed lighting. This helps set realistic expectations before committing to a full order.

Does PMS 162 U require a specific undercoat for good coverage?

PMS 162 U is a lighter, warm Pantone color, and like many Pantone matches, hide can vary by substrate. A light or neutral undercoat usually helps achieve more uniform coverage and reduces the number of top coats needed.

Dark or uneven substrates may show through if the undercoat is not addressed. Planning for an appropriate base color and allowing for multiple coats helps achieve a consistent, brand-accurate result.

What is the recommended way to apply PMS 162 U spray paint?

PMS 162 U generally looks best when applied in multiple light coats rather than one heavy coat. Light passes help control color build and reduce streaking or uneven areas.

Allow each coat to flash off before applying the next. This improves uniformity and makes it easier to judge when the color has fully developed to the intended Pantone appearance.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 162 U?

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 162 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 162 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 162 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
