Pantone™ PMS 156 U

Yes. PMS 156 U is a Pantone color target, not a finish specification. Changing sheen can change how the color is perceived even when the color target is the same. Higher gloss finishes tend to appear brighter and more saturated, while matte finishes can look softer or darker under the same lighting.

This means a matte sample of PMS 156 U can look noticeably different from a gloss sample, even though both are matched to the same Pantone reference. Always compare samples in the same finish and lighting conditions used in the final application.

If the goal is to visually blend with an existing painted surface rather than reproduce a brand color, a Pantone PMS 156 U match is usually not sufficient. Pantone is a communication standard for brand color appearance, not a method for matching aged paint, specific substrates, or prior coatings.

For blend-critical results, the correct path is to send a physical sample or part so the color can be matched directly. This accounts for substrate, finish, wear, and lighting that a Pantone reference alone cannot capture.

Yes. PMS 156 U is commonly used as a brand color target for signs, displays, and exhibit fabrication where visual consistency is the priority. Pantone matching works well for panels, graphics, props, and other fabricated elements that need to align with brand standards.

Because appearance can vary by substrate and finish, it is recommended to review a physical sample of PMS 156 U on the actual material being used before full production, especially for high-visibility installations.

The Pantone code PMS 156 U defines the color target only. Interior or exterior suitability depends on where and how the painted item will be used. Choose an interior paint type for controlled indoor environments and an exterior-rated paint type for exposure to weather, sunlight, or temperature changes.

Selecting the correct paint type ensures performance and durability without changing the intended color target. If the project is brand-facing, confirm the color appearance with a sample in the chosen paint type before final use.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
