Pantone™ PMS 157 U

PMS 157 U is a bright, saturated Pantone color. Colors in this range can have lower hide compared to neutral or muted tones.

When applying PMS 157 U, plan for additional coats to achieve even coverage, especially on light or dark substrates that contrast strongly with the target color. Evaluating a sample on your actual material helps confirm the number of coats needed before committing to a full run.

When matching PMS 157 U on metal or over an existing powder coat, surface preparation matters. Existing coatings, gloss level, and surface texture can all influence how the color appears.

Scuffing and cleaning the surface helps create a consistent base, but visual results can still vary from one substrate to another. For brand-critical applications, it is best to test PMS 157 U on a prepared sample part to confirm appearance before production.

You should always order using the full Pantone code, PMS 157 U, rather than relying on the color name alone.

Pantone names can be similar across different series and suffixes, and each suffix represents a different reference standard. Using the exact code, including the U designation, ensures the color is matched to the correct Pantone target.

PMS 157 U defines the color target, not the paint chemistry. You should select the paint type based on where and how the color will be used.

For indoor displays, exhibits, or prototypes, interior formulations are often sufficient. For outdoor signage or installations exposed to weather and sunlight, an exterior-capable paint is recommended. The color match remains PMS 157 U, but performance depends on choosing the correct product for the environment.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
