Pantone® PMS 156 C . Paint And Spray Paint. MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone Matching System colors in spray paint and other paints.

PMS 156 C from the Pantone Matching System is a light to mid-light orange with distinctly warm, muted character. The color projects a soft, approachable, and subdued vibe, making it suitable for uses requiring a friendly and less intense visual presence. Its appearance is consistent with branding, wayfinding, and environmental graphics where clarity and warmth are prioritized.

- PMS 156 C displays a light appearance, as indicated by a relatively high LRV of 58.47. - The color presents a warm undertone, leaning toward a yellow-orange, which enhances its approachable character. - This color shows moderate saturation, offering visible chromatic energy without overwhelming intensity. - PMS 156 C carries subtle beige or peach undertones, leading to a softened and less vibrant orange impression. - The color can appear brighter or more muted depending on the finish and lighting conditions.

PMS 156 C works well where a light, warm orange is required for visual branding or wayfinding in display, marketing, or exhibit projects. The color tends to remain inviting and legible in both matte and satin finishes, but its warmth may be exaggerated or diminished under different lighting types—direct daylight will emphasize the yellow-orange quality, while cool artificial lighting may mute its presence slightly. Careful substrate preparation is advised, as lighter and less saturated oranges can show substrate color variation and may require appropriate priming for uniform coverage. PMS 156 C is noticeably softer and less saturated than more vivid oranges and will appear less stark in most environmental settings.

Similar colors:
PMS 155 C – Lighter and more muted with a stronger beige undertone.

PMS 157 C – Darker and more saturated, presenting as a clearer, more vivid orange.

PMS 1625 C – Warmer and more chromatic, reading closer to a bright peach or coral.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 156 C

Why is Pantone PMS 156 C not recommended for touch-up of existing finishes?

Pantone PMS 156 C is a standardized color reference, not a finish-specific coating or product specification. Pantone codes do not define sheen, substrate, or application method, which are critical for touch-up work. Using PMS 156 C as a touch-up reference for existing finishes may result in visible mismatches in gloss, texture, or appearance. For brand accuracy and visual alignment, PMS 156 C works best as a color target for new projects or components, not for repairing or blending into existing coatings.

How much area does a spray can of Pantone PMS 156 C paint cover, and how do I estimate how many cans I will need?

A standard spray can of Pantone PMS 156 C typically covers about 20 square feet per coat on a smooth, primed surface. Actual coverage depends on surface texture, porosity, and application method. Lighter and less saturated oranges like PMS 156 C may need more than one coat for proper hide and brightness, especially over darker surfaces. To estimate, calculate the total square footage of your project, account for 2 to 3 coats if uniform opacity is required, and divide by 20 to determine the number of cans needed. Always round up for uneven surfaces or if priming is not used.

What should I consider when using Pantone PMS 156 C paint for pop-ups or retail environments?

For pop-ups and retail environments, using Pantone PMS 156 C requires attention to durability, lighting, and surface preparation. Evaluate the site''s lighting in advance, as PMS 156 C may shift in appearance under cool or highly variable lighting. Choose paint formats and finishes that meet the expected wear and cleaning needs of your installation. Always sample PMS 156 C on the actual materials before full-scale application to confirm brand alignment and visual effect, especially when tight brand standards or approvals are in place.

Where can I find the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for paint made in Pantone PMS 156 C?

The Safety Data Sheet for paint made in Pantone PMS 156 C is determined by the product type and base, not the Pantone color code. To locate the correct SDS, select the specific paint product (such as spray paint, latex, or urethane) you intend to use. Then visit the SDS library for that product. The SDS provides all necessary safety and handling information for that format, regardless of the PMS 156 C color.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 156 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 156 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 156 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How much area will one spray can cover? And what is Pantone PMS 156 C spray paint made of?

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 156 C. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

Do I need a primer for Pantone PMS 156 C?
The need for primer for Pantone PMS 156 C depends on the type of paint, the substrate being painted and where it will be located. See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 156 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 156 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
