PMS 117 U is a Pantone PMS color commonly specified for brand-driven visual systems. It conveys a warm, energetic, attention-forward presence that supports bold brand recognition.
Color characteristicsThe color presents as a mid-to-deep yellow with an LRV of 37.99. It shows a warm temperature with a golden bias and high saturation that gives it strong visual intensity.
The yellow-orange undertone adds warmth and density, which can increase perceived richness under bright lighting.
Common usesThe color is often specified for branded signage, displays, and exhibit components. It is also used in marketing installations where strong visibility and immediate recognition are required.
Practical applicationPMS 117 U performs best in applications focused on visual impact rather than subtlety. Its high saturation means surface preparation, consistent application, and appropriate priming can help achieve even coverage and predictable appearance.
Similar colors:
PMS 116 U: lighter and brighter, with a more open yellow appearance.
PMS 117 C: slightly cleaner and more vivid, with less warmth.
PMS 118 U: darker and heavier, with increased visual weight.

PMS 117 U is a Pantone reference color, not a material-specific formula. When applied to different substrates, absorption, surface texture, and reflectivity can change how the color is perceived.
For PMS 117 U, this means the same paint may appear brighter, darker, or more saturated depending on the material and finish. To avoid surprises, evaluate the color on the actual substrate and sheen used in the final build, under the lighting where it will be seen.
PMS 117 U is a Pantone color standard, not a single paint formula. When PMS 117 U is applied to different substrates, the material itself affects how the color appears. Absorption, surface texture, and reflectivity can all change perceived brightness and saturation.
For projects that use multiple materials, the safest approach is to evaluate PMS 117 U on the actual substrates used in the final build. This helps confirm that the appearance meets brand expectations before full production.
PMS 117 U is available as custom spray paint and other paint formats for branding and display applications. Common options include spray paint, paint pens, and brush-in-cap bottles.
Choose spray paint for larger panels or even coverage, paint pens for controlled markings or small details, and brush-in-cap bottles for sample areas or hand application. Selecting the right format helps ensure accurate appearance and efficient application.
PMS 117 U is available as custom spray paint and other paint formats for branding and display applications. Common options include spray paint, paint pens, and brush-in-cap bottles.
The right format depends on how PMS 117 U will be applied. Spray paint is typically used for larger surfaces or display components, while pens or small bottles are better for detailed work or controlled application. Choosing the correct format helps reduce application issues and improves visual consistency.
Repeat orders of PMS 117 U are matched to the same Pantone reference, but appearance can still vary if the product type, sheen, or application method changes.
For the most consistent results, reorder the same product format and finish, and use the same approval reference each time. If visual approval is critical, keeping a physical sample from a prior run helps confirm expectations before production.
PMS 117 U is matched to the same Pantone reference each time, but small visual differences can occur between batches, especially if product type, sheen, or application method changes.
To keep results consistent, reorder the same product format and sheen, and use the same reference or approval method for each run. This is particularly important for brand-facing elements where PMS 117 U needs to look consistent across multiple builds or locations.
PMS 117 U is a vivid Pantone color, and saturated hues often have lower hide than neutral colors. This can mean more than one coat is needed to achieve uniform appearance.
Using an appropriate undercoat can improve consistency and reduce the number of finish coats required. Testing PMS 117 U over the planned undercoat and substrate is the best way to confirm coverage before committing to a full application.
PMS 117 U is a vivid Pantone color, and saturated hues can have lower hide than neutral colors. This means the underlying surface can influence the final appearance if coverage is uneven.
Planning for multiple coats and using an appropriate undercoat can help achieve a more uniform result. Testing PMS 117 U on the intended surface before full application is recommended, especially for high-visibility brand displays.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 117 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 117 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
