PMS 118 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a strong, golden yellow with a warm, assertive presence. It conveys energy, confidence, and high visibility, making it suitable for brand-forward applications where the color must stand out rather than recede.
The color reads as relatively dark for a yellow, with an LRV of 28.13. It shows a warm tendency with a golden bias, high saturation, and a subtle orange undertone that adds depth and visual density.
PMS 118 U works well in controlled brand environments where lighting and finish are evaluated in advance. Due to its saturation and lower lightness, careful surface preparation and multiple coats may be needed for uniform appearance, and finish choice can significantly influence perceived warmth and depth.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Pantone 117 U: slightly lighter and less dense, with reduced visual weight.
Pantone 119 U: darker and more muted, with increased brown influence.

Pantone PMS 118 U is a bright, saturated yellow, and colors in this range often have lower hide than neutral or darker tones. This means the underlying substrate color can influence the final appearance.
Plan for additional coats to achieve uniform coverage, especially over dark, uneven, or mixed substrates. For brand-facing applications, applying a compatible light or neutral base coat can help PMS 118 U reach a more consistent and accurate visual result.
PMS 118 U is a bright, saturated Pantone color, and colors in this range can have lower hide than neutral or muted tones.
Depending on the substrate and base coat, PMS 118 U may require additional coats to achieve uniform coverage and consistent appearance. This is normal for highly saturated Pantone colors and should be planned for during ordering and scheduling.
For brand-facing applications, applying proper primers and allowing enough coats is important to avoid uneven color or show-through.
The finish you choose can noticeably change how PMS 118 U is perceived. Gloss finishes tend to increase color punch and saturation but can introduce glare under strong lighting. Matte finishes reduce glare and reflections but may appear slightly softer or less vivid.
Consider viewing distance and lighting conditions. For close-up viewing or bright lighting, matte can improve legibility. For displays viewed from farther away where visual impact matters most, gloss can help PMS 118 U stand out.
The finish choice for PMS 118 U can significantly affect how the color is perceived.
Gloss finishes typically increase visual punch and saturation, making PMS 118 U appear brighter, but they can introduce glare under strong lighting. Matte finishes reduce glare and reflections, but the color may appear slightly less vivid.
Viewing distance, lighting conditions, and brand guidelines should guide the decision. When appearance is critical, confirming the finish choice with a sample is recommended.
Pantone PMS 118 U is a defined color target, not a paint formula, and matching it involves visual interpretation across materials, finishes, and lighting. Bright and saturated Pantone colors like PMS 118 U can be more challenging to match consistently.
MyPerfectColor specializes in producing accurate Pantone PMS matches for brand and display use, but small visual differences can still occur depending on substrate and finish. Always evaluate the color under your actual lighting conditions before final approval.
PMS 118 U is matched to the Pantone PMS standard, which is a visual color reference, not a paint formula.
Bright and saturated Pantone colors like PMS 118 U can be more challenging to reproduce consistently across different materials and finishes. MyPerfectColor specializes in producing accurate visual matches, but slight variation can still occur due to substrate, finish, and lighting.
Understanding these variables helps set realistic expectations for brand applications.
Sampling is strongly recommended for PMS 118 U when the project is high visibility, requires formal brand approval, or will be installed across large areas. This is especially important when lighting conditions or substrate color could affect how the yellow is perceived.
A sample allows you to confirm coverage, finish choice, and overall appearance before committing to a full order, reducing the risk of rework or brand approval delays.
Sampling PMS 118 U is recommended for high-visibility brand projects, large installations, or any application requiring formal brand approval.
Because lighting, substrate, and finish can affect how PMS 118 U appears, reviewing a physical sample under real conditions helps reduce risk before committing to full production.
This step is especially important for bright, saturated colors where coverage and visual impact are critical.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 118 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
