Pantone™ PMS 7717 C

Pantone PMS 7717 C is a unique color standard defined by the Pantone Matching System and is not part of other paint brands' palettes. Most paint manufacturers create their own color systems, so there is no guaranteed equivalent for PMS 7717 C in other collections. This is especially true for vivid colors like 7717 C, where visual matches across brands can vary significantly. To achieve brand consistency, it is best to use paint specifically matched to Pantone PMS 7717 C rather than trying to cross-reference with another brand's color.

The choice of matte or gloss for PMS 7717 C depends on your visual goals and viewing environment. Gloss finishes increase punch and saturation, making PMS 7717 C appear bolder and more vivid, but they may also cause glare under strong lighting or from certain viewing angles. Matte finishes minimize reflections and glare, providing a more subtle look but may slightly reduce perceived intensity. For installations viewed from a distance or in highly lit spaces, gloss can enhance impact, while matte is preferred for up-close viewing or where minimizing reflections is important. Evaluate your lighting and brand requirements before deciding.

To assess PMS 7717 C samples for approval, compare them side by side using the same substrate and finish as your final project. Always inspect samples under consistent lighting, ideally matching the installed environment. Allow coatings to fully dry or cure before making your judgment, as color and gloss can shift during the curing process. This approach helps ensure that the final result closely matches the intended PMS 7717 C standard in real project conditions.

Whether you need a primer for PMS 7717 C depends on the paint type, the substrate material, and the demands of your project. Highly saturated colors like PMS 7717 C often benefit from a primer to ensure better coverage and consistent color appearance. Porous or uncoated surfaces almost always require priming, while previously painted or finished surfaces may not. For brand-focused work, using a recommended primer helps maintain the intensity and fidelity of PMS 7717 C across different substrates.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
