Pantone™ PMS 3278 C

The finish or sheen you choose for PMS 3278 C will directly impact its appearance in real settings. Higher gloss finishes increase perceived brightness and make the color look more vibrant and saturated, which can enhance its visual impact in brand and marketing displays. Matte or satin finishes soften the look, reducing glare but also making the color appear slightly more muted. When specifying PMS 3278 C for branding applications, always confirm the finish with stakeholders, as the same color can appear quite different depending on whether it is gloss, satin, or matte.

PMS 3278 C is highly saturated and can require careful application to achieve a consistent appearance on large surfaces. For best results, plan for multiple thin coats rather than a single heavy application, and maintain a consistent technique throughout the area. Make sure the substrate is evenly primed, mix all material thoroughly before use, and keep a wet edge to avoid visible overlaps or patchiness. Since PMS 3278 C has limited light reflectance and strong chroma, any inconsistency can be noticeable, so avoid stopping in the middle of a section. If possible, designate a single start and stop point per session for maximum uniformity.

Pantone books provide a standard color reference, but PMS 3278 C may appear different when applied as paint because substrate, finish, and lighting conditions all affect the final result. Paint on a surface will often look more or less saturated compared to the printed swatch, especially if the finish is glossier or more matte than the Pantone sample. For critical projects, always test PMS 3278 C paint on the actual material and under the intended lighting to confirm it meets your brand expectation before full production.

Proper preparation is important to achieve good adhesion and true color with PMS 3278 C. Start by cleaning the surface to remove any dust, dirt, oil, or grease. For glossy or slick surfaces, light scuffing is helpful to allow the paint to bond properly. Ensure the surface is dry and free from contaminants before applying the first coat. On challenging substrates or high-visibility installations, a test spot is recommended so you can verify appearance and adhesion before moving forward with the entire project.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
