PMS 7685 C, from the Pantone PMS collection, is a saturated, bold blue-violet that projects energy and confidence. Its vibe is contemporary, assertive, and visual—often associated with technical, creative, and brand-forward environments. In professional contexts, this color communicates impact and clarity without appearing juvenile or eccentric.

PMS 7685 C appears distinctly dark, with a low LRV of 9.42. The color is inherently cool, tending strongly toward blue with a violet overtone. PMS 7685 C is highly saturated, producing strong color impact in most applications. The undertone is a balanced blue-violet, neither strongly blue nor purple, with subtle red-violet influence. This color is moderately finish-sensitive, appearing glossier and richer in higher-sheen finishes, but it may darken noticeably in matte or low-gloss applications.

PMS 7685 C works well where a confident, visually prominent blue-violet is needed—such as in brand signage, accent features, or prototype components. Accurate color evaluation is essential, as both finish and lighting can shift the appearance between a cooler blue and a more intensified violet. Coverage may require additional coats, particularly on lighter substrates, due to strong chroma and low LRV. When compared to similar colors, PMS 7685 C maintains its assertive visual impact without shifting toward the softness or neutrality found in less saturated or lighter alternatives.

Similar colors:
PMS 7686 C is similar but deeper and cooler, making it appear more strictly blue and less violet.

PMS 7679 C offers a lighter, less saturated take on blue-violet, with a softer presence and increased perceived brightness.

PMS 3546 C presents a more neutral, less chromatic blue—reducing the violet undertone seen in PMS 7685 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7685 C

How should I compare PMS 7685 C paint to the color in my Pantone book?

Pantone books provide a print reference for PMS 7685 C. Paint made to match PMS 7685 C may look different, especially depending on sheen and substrate. The same color in matte, satin, or gloss will appear lighter or darker, and color can shift under different lighting. For brand-signage, displays, or prototypes, it is best to sample PMS 7685 C paint on the actual material and finish to verify acceptance. Always approve samples under real-world lighting before committing to full production.

What is the typical lead time for ordering paint matched to PMS 7685 C?

Paint matched to PMS 7685 C is made to order for each project. Typical production lead time ranges from several business days to about two weeks, depending on product type and current production volume. Spray paint and small batch specialty coatings may take longer than standard housepaint formats. For marketing or display needs with schedules, allow extra time for approvals and possible reorders to ensure brand consistency.

What should I consider when applying PMS 7685 C paint to plastics or low-energy surfaces?

Many plastics and low-energy substrates require specific surface prep for PMS 7685 C paint to adhere well. Use a primer designed for plastic or low-energy surfaces, and always test PMS 7685 C paint on a sample of your actual material first. Some plastics may resist adhesion, or color appearance may vary by substrate. Confirm that primer, paint, and substrate are compatible before full production to avoid adhesion or appearance issues.

Are there notable brands or projects that have used PMS 7685 C?

PMS 7685 C is chosen where a strong, confident blue-violet is needed for impactful branding, display, or prototype components. While many technical and creative organizations specify PMS 7685 C for its assertive and contemporary presence, usage varies by project and is often customized for brand-forward environments. Always confirm your brand specifications before ordering to ensure PMS 7685 C is the correct standard for your application.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7685 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
