Pantone® PMS 7659 C . Paint And Spray Paint. MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone Matching System colors in spray paint and other paints.

PMS 7659 C is a Pantone PMS system color valued for its rich, understated character. This color conveys a sense of depth, maturity, and subtle distinction, making it practical for brand standards where a sophisticated yet memorable purple is needed. It is generally described as deep, muted, warm, grounded, and reserved.

  • PMS 7659 C appears very dark, with low light reflectance (LRV: 5.7).
  • The color expresses a warm tendency, with a hint of brown or red within the purple base.
  • It exhibits moderate saturation, with noticeable chroma without appearing overly vivid or fluorescent.
  • The undertone is subdued and earthy, leaning toward a muted burgundy rather than a cool blue or true violet.
  • This color is sensitive to finish, with matte or flat coatings further emphasizing its muted quality.

PMS 7659 C works well in scenarios where a dark, complex purple is needed to differentiate a brand or communicate a tone of seriousness and depth. It performs reliably on fabricated displays, signage, and branded environments, providing the intended effect under both controlled and mixed lighting. Care should be taken in application, as the color’s darkness and warmth can shift depending on lighting temperature and finish, occasionally appearing browner or more muted under warm light. Coverage is generally good, but deep, saturated colors may require multiple coats for uniformity, especially over light substrates.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 7672 C: Slightly lighter and cooler, lacking the earthy undertone of PMS 7659 C.
  • PMS 7667 C: Deeper and more blue-based, showing a cooler, less muted presence.
  • PMS 209 C: Slightly redder and brighter, giving a more vivid, burgundy effect compared to the muted character of PMS 7659 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7659 C

How does changing the finish or sheen affect the appearance of PMS 7659 C compared to the Pantone standard?

Changing the finish or sheen of PMS 7659 C can noticeably alter how the color appears, even when aiming for the official Pantone target. A matte or flat finish will make PMS 7659 C look more muted, less vibrant, and slightly darker, while a gloss finish can make it appear brighter and increase the perception of depth and saturation. If comparing a matte paint sample to a gloss sample, they may look like different colors due to these effects. Always use the same finish as your Pantone standard for evaluation or approval to ensure reliable color alignment for branded environments and displays.

What should I consider when selecting a paint type for PMS 7659 C for interior versus exterior applications?

When using PMS 7659 C for an interior application, focus on a paint type designed for indoor environments, where exposure to moisture, sunlight, and heavy wear is limited. For exterior projects, choose a paint that is specifically formulated for outdoor use to ensure durability and color stability over time. The visual color target for PMS 7659 C remains the same, but the chemistry needs to match the exposure level. Using the wrong paint type could result in premature fading or other failures, so specify interior or exterior based on the final installation setting to achieve long-lasting, brand-consistent results.

Are there special steps needed to apply PMS 7659 C to plastics or low-surface-energy materials?

Applying PMS 7659 C to plastics or low-surface-energy materials may require a specific primer or additional surface preparation to achieve proper adhesion. Different plastics vary in how they accept paint, so it is recommended to test PMS 7659 C on the actual material before full production. Using the correct primer or adhesion promoter helps ensure consistent color and performance. Skipping these steps can lead to poor adhesion or color shifting, which could compromise the brand standard you are targeting.

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 7659 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 7659 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
