PMS 7641 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS) collection, widely used for standardizing brand colors across materials and fabrication processes. The color has a rich, assertive, and technical vibe, with a visually substantial character suited for environments where durability in appearance and fidelity to specification are important.

PMS 7641 C appears dark compared to most saturated reds, with a low light reflectance value (LRV 8.02). The color shows a distinctly warm character, falling within the red spectrum with a subtle, muted edge. PMS 7641 C maintains high saturation, providing a bold and well-defined chromatic presence. This color has understated, slightly earthy undertones, which reduce the vibrancy commonly found in primary reds. The finish can affect visual depth and richness; lower sheens accentuate the color’s density, whereas higher gloss may emphasize saturation.

PMS 7641 C works well in brand-facing environments, display components, and fabricated elements where a strong, consistent red is required by design standards. It is important to test this color in the intended finish and lighting, as variations in gloss and ambient light conditions can change its perceived depth and intensity. Compared to other reds in the PMS palette, PMS 7641 C reads as slightly more muted yet still assertive; it will typically demand careful surface preparation and, due to its depth, may require multiple coats to achieve uniform coverage, especially over light or high-contrast substrates.

Similar colors:
PMS 201 C: Slightly lighter and somewhat cooler, with a more traditional red appearance.

PMS 7623 C: More chromatic and vivid, appearing brighter and less muted.

PMS 188 C: Darker and more subdued, with stronger brown undertones.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7641 C

How should I evaluate PMS 7641 C for prototypes or concept models to ensure the color aligns with brand standards?

When prototyping with PMS 7641 C, select a paint format (such as spray paint or paint pen) that matches the application and substrate for your model. Apply the color to a test part using the same material and finish as your actual prototype, and evaluate the result under the intended lighting conditions. Because PMS 7641 C is a deep, muted red, its appearance can shift with different finishes and lighting. Testing before full production helps confirm brand alignment and avoids approval issues later. Multiple coats may be needed for uniform appearance, especially on light or uneven substrates.

What surface preparation steps are recommended before applying PMS 7641 C to maximize adhesion and appearance?

For best results with PMS 7641 C, ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, or grease. Lightly scuff glossy surfaces with a fine abrasive to promote adhesion, then remove all residues. Applying a primer or base coat may improve color uniformity, especially over highly contrasting or porous materials. Always test PMS 7641 C on a small area first to confirm that coverage and color meet expectations, since vivid and saturated reds may show through or require extra coats.

What is the difference between ordering PMS 7641 C by name versus by code, and how does this affect my order?

Ordering by the full Pantone code, such as PMS 7641 C, ensures you receive the exact color target specified by brand standards. The code uniquely identifies the color, while the name is meant for descriptive reference and does not guarantee accuracy on its own. Always provide the complete code including any suffix, such as 'C' for coated, to avoid color mismatches and rework. This helps ensure your project meets brand visual requirements for PMS 7641 C.

What should I know about shipping and lead times when ordering paint matched to PMS 7641 C?

Shipping times for PMS 7641 C paint depend on your location, the format ordered, and the selected shipping method. Custom-matched Pantone colors can require production lead time before shipping. If you have a specific deadline, order early and select an expedited shipping option if needed. Be aware that transit can be affected by carrier schedules and regional factors. Planning ahead helps avoid project delays and supports on-time brand rollout.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 7641 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 7641 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 7641 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
