PMS 7623 C (Pantone PMS system) is a strong, sophisticated hue with a distinctly warm, saturated character. The color conveys a grounded and intense vibe and is frequently described as bold, pragmatic, and visually assertive. With a notably low light reflectance value (LRV 7.23), it functions effectively as a visual anchor or primary accent in brand and marketing contexts, particularly where visibility and impact are critical.

PMS 7623 C appears dark due to its low LRV of 7.23. The color exhibits a strong warm tendency, driven by its red hue with subtle earthy undertones. It is highly saturated, contributing to vivid color payoff on most surfaces. PMS 7623 C presents a muted, slightly brownish undertone, which distinguishes it from purely primary reds. The color’s perceived richness is sensitive to lighting and finish. Lighter sheens may amplify vibrancy, while matte finishes may mute the saturation.

PMS 7623 C is often used in branded displays and corporate signage requiring visually assertive, warm reds. This color is frequently specified for retail fixture elements and trade show environments that demand bold visibility.

PMS 7623 C works well in spaces where a bold, warm red focal point is desired, such as branded displays, feature walls, or corporate identity installations. Evaluate color appearance under planned lighting, as both brightness and warmth can shift depending on surroundings and finish. The high saturation may require additional coats for full opacity, especially over light or uneven substrates. Compared to similar reds, PMS 7623 C is slightly deeper and more muted, helping conceal minor surface inconsistencies but potentially appearing darker in low-light conditions.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7623 C

How does the finish or sheen affect the visual appearance of Pantone PMS 7623 C in real-world applications?

The finish or sheen you select for Pantone PMS 7623 C plays a significant role in how the color is seen on surfaces. Gloss or satin finishes tend to increase perceived vibrancy and brightness, making PMS 7623 C appear bolder and more saturated. Matte finishes, on the other hand, can mute the color, leading PMS 7623 C to look slightly deeper and less intense. Since PMS 7623 C is a low-LRV, highly saturated red, these finish choices can swing the visual impact considerably. Always review both a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the chosen finish, under the planned lighting, to ensure results meet your expectations for branding and display.

When is a primer required for projects using Pantone PMS 7623 C paint?

A primer is typically recommended when using Pantone PMS 7623 C on bare, light, or uneven surfaces to promote adhesion and help achieve even, saturated coverage. PMS 7623 C is a deep, highly saturated red, which means it may need additional coats for full opacity, especially over light-colored or porous substrates. Using a primer can reduce the number of color coats required and improve final color consistency. If you are painting over a previously painted or dark surface, primer needs may differ according to the paint type and substrate. Refer to paint and substrate specific guidance to determine if priming is necessary for your application.

How can I ensure consistent results when reordering Pantone PMS 7623 C for future projects?

To achieve consistent results with Pantone PMS 7623 C across multiple orders, always use the same product type, finish, and application process. The color appearance can shift based on changes in paint format or sheen. Keep a record of your approved reference, such as a physical Pantone standard or a retained sample panel, and use it to verify future batches. Communicate your approval method and any custom requirements clearly when reordering. Consistency in these variables is critical for maintaining brand color accuracy in marketing and display projects.

When is ordering a standard Pantone PMS 7623 C paint match appropriate?

Ordering a standard match to Pantone PMS 7623 C is appropriate when the specification is driven by a brand or marketing standard that calls for the Pantone reference, and where visual alignment to the standard is more important than matching a specific coating or substrate. This approach fits most brand-facing displays, signage, exhibit components, and prototypes where the Pantone color is the visual target. For permanent installations or multi-material builds requiring strict approval, consider evaluating a sample panel first to confirm satisfaction with color appearance on your chosen finish and substrate.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7623 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
