PMS 2272 C, part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS) collection, is a distinctive and vivid green designed for applications demanding exact color communication. The color presents as bold, assertive, clean, and modern, with a distinctly technical visual presence. Its relatively deep lightness (LRV 23.17) and pronounced chroma make it well-suited to applications where attention and clarity are priorities, while its cool undertone reinforces a contemporary or professional mood.

PMS 2272 C appears as a darker mid-tone green, with moderate reflectance. The color demonstrates a strong cool tendency, owing to a hue angle in the green spectrum. PMS 2272 C shows high saturation, giving it vividness and intensity. The underlying undertone is cool, leaning slightly blue-green rather than warm or yellow-green. Surface sheen or gloss can intensify perceived chroma, while matte finishes will reduce visual impact.

PMS 2272 C is most effective where a strong, easily recognizable green is needed for visual identity, signage, or branded displays. When choosing this color, evaluate lighting conditions—especially artificial versus natural light—as they can influence the perceived hue and depth, sometimes amplifying the cool undertone. As a high-chroma green, application may require additional coats for full coverage, especially over contrasting substrates or in lower-hide finishes. When compared to other greens in the PMS range, PMS 2272 C will read cleaner and more intense, without yellow or olive notes.

Similar colors:
PMS 2257 C, which is slightly lighter and less saturated, yielding a softer appearance.

PMS 7724 C, which is darker and more muted, resulting in a more subdued effect.

PMS 2286 C, which is cooler and has more blue influence, shifting towards teal.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2272 C

Why is there no direct equivalent for Pantone PMS 2272 C in other paint brands?

Paint brands create their own unique color palettes, so there is no direct equivalent in other lines for Pantone PMS 2272 C. Especially for saturated colors like PMS 2272 C, the pigments and color formulation are specific to the Pantone Matching System standard. Cross-referencing between brands is rarely exact, so selecting PMS 2272 C directly ensures the closest representation for applications where accurate brand color is essential.

When do I need to use a primer before applying paint matched to Pantone PMS 2272 C?

Whether you need a primer for Pantone PMS 2272 C depends on the substrate, exposure, and paint type. Primers are recommended on unpainted surfaces, very smooth or glossy materials, and when covering contrasting colors to help with coverage and adhesion. Since PMS 2272 C is a vivid, high-chroma green, it may need extra coats over a dark or starkly different base, especially in lower-hide finishes. Check the product guidance for your specific paint and surface for best results.

How should I compare Pantone PMS 2272 C paint to a Pantone color book, and what differences should I expect?

The Pantone book serves as a standardized reference for PMS 2272 C, but painted surfaces may appear different due to factors like sheen and substrate. For visually demanding or brand-critical projects, always test PMS 2272 C on a sample of your actual material to see how it compares under your lighting. Expect some variation, especially between flat and glossy finishes, or between paper and paint.

What are the steps to order paint in Pantone PMS 2272 C from MyPerfectColor?

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2272 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
