PMS 2257 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (Pantone PMS) used for brand specification and color-critical applications. This color has a mid-dark appearance, with a distinctly cool, saturated green character. It is perceived as assertive, modern, and visually prominent, lending brand-forward energy to displays and fabricated environments.

PMS 2257 C shows a moderately low lightness (LRV 30.46), appearing noticeably deeper than medium greens. The color has a cool tendency, typical for greens with a blue bias. It exhibits high saturation, resulting in a bold and vibrant appearance. PMS 2257 C carries a definitive cool undertone, resisting yellow or olive shifts. The color’s vividness can be enhanced or reduced by gloss; high-gloss finishes intensify the saturation, while matte may mute its visual impact.

PMS 2257 C performs well as a statement or accent color in environments where clear brand recognition is required, such as signage, retail fixtures, and experiential displays. Proper surface preparation is important: due to the strong chroma, ensure uniform priming for consistent color payoff. Lighting can shift perceived intensity—cool lighting emphasizes its vibrancy, while warmer lighting may dull its edge. Coverage may require additional coats, particularly over contrasting substrates or when using low-hide paint systems. PMS 2257 C consistently maintains its cool, saturated character compared to more muted or yellow-biased greens.

Similar colors:
PMS 2261 C – Slightly lighter and more muted, with less chromatic vibrancy.

PMS 2415 C – Similar depth but leans more neutral and less blue-toned.

PMS 2428 C – Darker and deeper in value, with a cooler undertone and more reserved character.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2257 C

Will PMS 2257 C look different if I use gloss versus matte finishes?

Yes, the finish you select will influence how PMS 2257 C appears. Glossy finishes make this cool, saturated green look bolder and more vibrant, enhancing depth and saturation. Matte or low-sheen finishes can mute the color, making PMS 2257 C appear less intense and slightly lighter. If precise brand color alignment is required, ensure that all compared samples and production pieces have consistent gloss levels, as direct comparisons between matte and gloss samples may look like different colors even when the formula is correct.

What is the best way to apply PMS 2257 C spray paint for even, brand-consistent results?

For PMS 2257 C, it is best to use several light coats rather than one heavy application. Apply a thin layer, then allow it to partially dry before adding the next. This practice reduces the risks of drips and uneven coverage and helps maintain the vivid, brand-accurate color. Multiple thin coats also help deliver the best payoff for highly saturated colors like PMS 2257 C, especially over light or contrasting substrates. Always follow drying guidelines for your selected paint system to achieve clean, uniform results.

How should I specify PMS 2257 C when ordering to ensure I get the right color?

To avoid confusion and ensure you receive the correct color match, always reference the full Pantone code when ordering-PMS 2257 C in this case. Relying only on the color name or omitting the 'C' suffix can result in receiving a different color or an unintended variation. Always double-check the code in your brand standards or artwork before submitting your order.

What should I know before painting metal or powder-coated parts with PMS 2257 C?

When applying PMS 2257 C to metal parts, including those with an existing powder-coat, proper surface prep is important for both adhesion and color accuracy. Clean the surface thoroughly and, if coated, lightly scuff to help new paint bond. Be aware that the gloss and color of the base surface can influence the final appearance of PMS 2257 C, especially for highly saturated greens. If appearance is critical, test a sample on the actual substrate first to confirm that the result fits your brand requirements before proceeding with full production.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2257 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
