PMS 2142 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) standard color. It is visually characterized by a strong, cool, violet-to-blue presence, with a balanced lightness that avoids being overly dark or pastel. The vibe of this color is technical, assertive, contemporary, vivid, and stable, aligning with its common use in marketing, display fabrication, and industrial design where precise color communication is essential.

- PMS 2142 C appears as a moderately dark color, with a light reflectance value (LRV) of 39.94. - The color trends cool, dominated by violet-blue hues. - PMS 2142 C shows medium to high saturation, creating a visually impactful appearance. - The undertone is predominantly blue-violet, with minimal warmth. - This color is sensitive to finish and lighting; higher glosses may increase perceived saturation and brightness, while matte finishes may mute its vibrancy.

PMS 2142 C performs well where a strong, consistent violet-blue identity is needed on branded displays, retail environments, or prototypes. Evaluate this color in both the intended lighting and finish, as cooler hues can appear bluer or more muted depending on the viewing environment. When used alongside other saturated colors, PMS 2142 C will maintain its chromatic distinction without overwhelming neutral elements. Expect coverage comparable to other chromatic mid-dark violets, but extended hiding may be required on high-contrast substrates.

Similar colors:
PMS 2145 C – Slightly lighter and marginally more saturated, appearing a touch more vivid under direct lighting.

PMS 2105 C – Slightly darker and more muted, reading as a deeper blue-violet.

PMS 2727 C – Noticeably lighter and cooler, with a stronger blue influence and less violet content.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2142 C

Is PMS 2142 C used by any notable brands or in specific applications?

PMS 2142 C is selected for projects that demand a strong, technical, and contemporary violet-blue identity. It is commonly used where precise color communication is required, including branded displays, retail fixtures, and industrial prototypes. While PMS 2142 C is part of the standard Pantone Matching System palette available to many brands, its use will be project-specific and driven by visual brand standards. It is important to confirm your brand specification before ordering to ensure this color is the intended reference.

What tips help ensure a uniform finish with PMS 2142 C over large display areas?

For PMS 2142 C, achieving a consistent appearance on large surfaces requires careful planning. Always mix enough paint to cover the entire area to prevent batch differences. Use the same application method and sheen level across all surfaces. Highly saturated colors like PMS 2142 C may need extra coats, especially on light or high-contrast substrates, to avoid patchiness. Apply each coat evenly and allow proper drying between coats. Evaluate the finish under the final lighting conditions to confirm uniformity before installation or signoff.

What durability should I expect from spray paint matched to PMS 2142 C?

The durability of spray paint matched to PMS 2142 C depends on the paint type chosen, how well the surface is prepared, and the exposure environment. For projects where abrasion, moisture, or UV exposure is expected, select a spray paint system designed for those conditions and consider using a compatible clear topcoat if needed. Proper surface prep is essential for good adhesion and color longevity. For short-term displays or indoor applications, standard spray paints may be sufficient, but always check the paint format recommendations relative to your use environment.

How should I use PMS 2142 C samples for brand approval before a full rollout?

Order a small sample of PMS 2142 C in the intended paint format and sheen for review. Test the sample on the actual substrate and view it under the planned lighting to confirm it aligns with your brand standards. Obtain approvals using the real-world conditions before proceeding to large quantity orders. This process helps avoid costly errors and ensures the final result meets brand expectations for color and appearance.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 2142 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 2142 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Can I use the Pantone PMS 2142 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
