PMS 2077 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, widely relied upon for accurate color specification in branding, display fabrication, and industrial design. The color presents as a bold, contemporary magenta with strong chromatic intensity, a cool undertone, and a distinctly deep value. It delivers a commanding, modern, and eye-catching appearance while maintaining clarity and vibrancy, supporting visual emphasis in environments where color accuracy and brand alignment are critical.

PMS 2077 C exhibits low lightness, supported by an LRV of 9.51, resulting in a distinctly dark and rich appearance. The color is cool-leaning, with a hue angle that suggests a pronounced magenta, bordering on cool pink-violet. PMS 2077 C is characterized by high saturation and strong chroma, contributing to visual impact and intensity. The undertone is cool, with a tendency toward blue rather than red, avoiding warmth. The color can show notable sensitivity to finish; gloss or satin will amplify vibrancy, while matte finishes may appear more muted.

PMS 2077 C is operationally effective as a key accent, brand feature, or focal color in environments where visual differentiation and adherence to brand specifications are essential. Users should evaluate this color in the target lighting and finish, as light sources and sheen significantly affect both perceived depth and chromaticity. Compared to other magentas in the PMS range, PMS 2077 C distinguishes itself by being deeper and cooler. Surfaces may require proper preparation and multiple coats to achieve full, uniform coverage due to the color’s rich pigmentation and low lightness.

Similar colors:
PMS 219 C – Lighter and more vivid; presents a brighter, less subdued magenta.

PMS 2425 C – Comparable chroma but warmer; introduces more reddish undertones.

PMS 2415 C – Similar saturation yet slightly lighter and less cool in hue.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2077 C

What is the difference between the Pantone color code and the name for PMS 2077 C, and how do I order the correct color?

The Pantone color code 'PMS 2077 C' is the standard way to specify this exact magenta in the Pantone Matching System. The code ensures you are referencing the same target color across all materials and vendors. When ordering paint for PMS 2077 C, always provide the full code, including any suffix like 'C' (which stands for Coated), to ensure you receive the intended color and not a similar shade. Color names alone may lead to confusion or mistakes, as different colors can have similar descriptions. Double-checking the full code will help avoid ordering the wrong product and support brand consistency.

How do undercoats and multiple coats affect coverage when using PMS 2077 C paint?

PMS 2077 C is a deep, highly saturated magenta with low lightness. As with many vivid Pantone colors, it may require more coats to achieve uniform coverage, especially over contrasting or porous surfaces. Using a suitable undercoat, such as a primer or a color base close to the target shade, can improve color uniformity and reduce the number of required coats. Planning for two or more coats is common to reach the full depth and richness of PMS 2077 C. Proper surface preparation is also important for consistent results in brand or display applications.

What should I expect when comparing PMS 2077 C paint to a Pantone book?

The Pantone book provides a reference standard for PMS 2077 C, but actual paint appearance may vary based on factors like sheen, substrate, and lighting. Paints can look glossier or more subdued than the printed standard, especially since finishes such as gloss or matte affect brightness and depth. To ensure your finished project aligns with your brand expectations, test PMS 2077 C paint on your specific material and under the actual lighting conditions. This helps identify any perceptual differences before a full production run.

How should I select the appropriate sheen or finish when ordering PMS 2077 C paint?

The sheen you choose for PMS 2077 C can significantly influence its appearance. Higher sheens, such as gloss or satin, can make the color appear more vibrant and saturated, while matte finishes tend to mute the depth and intensity. Consider how the painted surface will be viewed (distance, angle), what substrate it will be applied to, and the intended visual impact for your brand display. It is also a good idea to sample different finishes in your actual lighting environment to verify that PMS 2077 C delivers the desired effect in your final application.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2077 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
