PMS 874 C
A rich metallic gold tone widely referenced for its distinctive appearance in branding, signage, and specialized display applications.
Color summary
PMS 874 C from the Pantone PMS system is a metallic gold with a muted, brassy quality and a low to moderate reflectance. This color is perceived as sophisticated, stable, and substantial, with an effect that is both decorative and authoritative. The color demonstrates a restrained vibrancy due to its metallic finish, lending it a professional and technical vibe. Its presence evokes reliability and established tradition, making it functionally useful where a metallic accent of controlled warmth is prioritized.
Color characteristics
- PMS 874 C appears dark for a metallic gold, with an LRV of 17.59, indicating a moderately low light reflectance. - The color has a warm tendency, presenting a golden-bronze appearance characteristic of metallics with a muted yellow base. - PMS 874 C exhibits medium chroma for a metallic color, balancing saturation with subtlety in its metallic sheen. - The undertone is brass-like, with a soft yellow-brown cast that reads as neither aggressively yellow nor overtly coppery. - This color is highly sensitive to finish and application method; the metallic effect will be reduced or altered if applied as a matte or flat coating, and surface smoothness will significantly impact appearance.
Common uses
- PMS 874 C is frequently specified in branding systems for printed metallic accents on packaging, luxury goods, and stationery. - The color is commonly used for signage, awards, plaques, and environmental graphics requiring a metallic gold effect with controlled reflectance.
Practical application
PMS 874 C works especially well where a metallic gold with a muted, brassy quality is required, such as for logos, display fabrication, or branded graphics with metallic print effects. Careful surface preparation is essential to maintain the metallic appearance and avoid uneven reflectance. Lighting should be evaluated, as highlights and perceived warmth may shift under different conditions. PMS 874 C appears darker and less chromatic than some other metallic golds; it maintains visual impact without being overly flashy, but may require particular attention to finish and substrate for full effect.

When evaluating PMS 874 C paint samples, use the same lighting conditions on all samples, as metallic golds can appear different depending on the light source and intensity. Compare samples on the same substrate or material for reliable results, since surface texture and color can shift based on what is painted. Allow all finishes to fully dry and cure before judging the metallic effect and color match. Visual approval is most accurate when these factors are controlled throughout the review process.
The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for PMS 874 C paint is linked to the specific product type, such as spray paint or housepaint, not the Pantone color itself. To obtain the correct SDS, choose your product format and access the SDS library for that product. This ensures you get safety, handling, and compliance information for the exact paint you are using.
For the best results with PMS 874 C, start by cleaning the surface to remove dust, grease, or residues. Degrease if necessary and lightly scuff glossy or very smooth surfaces to help with adhesion. Always test a small area to confirm that the finish and adhesion are as expected before proceeding with full application. These steps help achieve a smooth, consistent metallic effect and reduce the risk of uneven coverage.
PMS 874 C is a metallic gold with moderate saturation and a muted finish, which can require careful application to achieve uniform appearance and full coverage. Highly metallic colors often benefit from additional coats, especially if applied over dark or uneven surfaces. Plan for at least two coats for best coverage, checking each layer for consistency to ensure the intended metallic effect is achieved.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 874 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
