PMS 7449 C is a Pantone PMS standard color characterized by its very low light reflectance, rich chromatic depth, and pronounced cool undertone. Within the Pantone PMS system, this color is noted for its technical, assertive, and modern appearance. The overall vibe is bold, sophisticated, and visually commanding, making PMS 7449 C appropriate for applications demanding a saturated statement with precise color control.

- PMS 7449 C appears very dark, with a notably low LRV of 2.75. - The color leans cool due to its placement in the purple spectrum (hue angle near 330°). - PMS 7449 C has moderate chroma, resulting in high color saturation without appearing neon or artificially vivid. - This color exhibits a distinct blue-purple undertone, especially under neutral lighting. - PMS 7449 C can display minor variations depending on surface gloss, with higher-gloss finishes amplifying its depth and reflecting ambient light. - The color is sensitive to surrounding colors and lighting, occasionally reading as nearly black in low-light conditions.

PMS 7449 C works well when utilized for branded displays, retail fixtures, signage, or conceptual models where deep, saturated purples are called for. It performs best in environments with balanced lighting, as very dim settings can obscure its chromatic qualities, causing it to appear almost black. When specifying or applying PMS 7449 C, be mindful that surface preparation impacts perceived uniformity due to its darkness—irregular surfaces or thin application can expose substrates. Compared to similar deep purples, PMS 7449 C maintains a cooler profile and greater visual saturation, helping it remain recognizable even when viewed at a distance or under mixed lighting.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7449 C

How can I ensure consistent color results when reordering Pantone PMS 7449 C?

To achieve consistent results when reordering Pantone PMS 7449 C, use the same product type and sheen as your initial order. Always approve your results against the same physical Pantone reference and real paint sample, evaluated in the intended lighting and finish. Variations in product base, finish, or approval process may cause noticeable differences, particularly with deep and saturated colors like PMS 7449 C. Document your specifications and approval criteria for future reference.

Where do I find the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for paint matched to Pantone PMS 7449 C?

The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for Pantone PMS 7449 C paint depends on the product type, such as spray paint, epoxy, or housepaint, rather than the PMS color code. Visit the SDS library for the specific format you are ordering. Review the SDS that matches your selected product to ensure you have the right information for safe use and compliance.

How does the finish or sheen affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 7449 C in real applications?

The finish or sheen has a significant impact on how Pantone PMS 7449 C appears. Glossy finishes increase the perceived depth and reflect more ambient light, sometimes making the deep purple look brighter or more saturated. Matte finishes create a softer, less reflective appearance, often causing PMS 7449 C to look even darker or nearly black in low light. Always evaluate samples in your chosen sheen and lighting to confirm the intended visual effect.

What should I consider when applying Pantone PMS 7449 C to metal or powder-coated parts?

When painting metal or powder-coated parts with Pantone PMS 7449 C, proper surface preparation is essential. Scuff and clean the surface to promote adhesion and even coverage. Existing coatings and gloss can affect the final appearance, especially for a dark and saturated color like PMS 7449 C. Always perform a sample application on the actual substrate to confirm visual results before full production.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7449 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
