PMS 8545 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection and is classified as a metallic color type. It presents as a dark, muted metallic brown with a restrained, earthy quality. The overall vibe is subdued, industrial, and technical—conveying seriousness, reliability, and understated sophistication. This color is not bold or flamboyant but serves as a stable background or accent, often supporting more central branding elements. It is suitable for applications where a metallic effect is desired without high reflectivity or overt brightness.

- PMS 8545 C appears dark, with a low LRV of 7.54. - The color exhibits a cool-neutral to slightly warm undertone, dependent on ambient lighting conditions. - The saturation is moderate; the metallic nature tempers intensity. - PMS 8545 C has subtle undertones of brown and grey, reducing visual harshness. - The finish is highly sensitive; the metallic character can shift apparent brightness and hue, especially across matte, satin, or gloss substrates.

PMS 8545 C works well for applications requiring a muted metallic presence, such as architectural wayfinding, equipment housings, or branded fixtures where glare and boldness are not desired. Its restrained nature helps it recede as a supportive background, but the metallic aspect introduces depth. Particular attention should be given to lighting, as the metallic finish will change reflectance and chromatic perception. Performance hinges on uniform substrate prep—surface inconsistencies or poor technique can cause uneven reflectance and color drift compared to flat, non-metallic hues. Position PMS 8545 C next to softer or deeper metallics when a hierarchically subdued but visually interesting effect is needed.

PMS 8622 C: Lighter and less muted; presents a pale gold metallic effect.

PMS 7533 C: More matte and less metallic, with a greener undertone and less reflectance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 8545 C

Why is PMS 8545 C not recommended as a specification for touching up existing coatings?

PMS 8545 C is a standardized Pantone reference intended for brand consistency across products and vendors, not for retouching existing finishes. Pantone standards do not specify the original substrate, sheen, or application process, which means that matching a previously applied coating may result in visible differences. Variations in substrate texture, gloss, and wear create unpredictability, especially for metallic colors like PMS 8545 C that respond strongly to application technique and lighting. For best results, use PMS 8545 C for new applications where the Pantone color is the main target, not for blending into previously painted areas.

How long does it take to produce paint matched to Pantone PMS 8545 C?

Paint matched to PMS 8545 C is made to order to ensure accuracy and freshness. Production lead time typically ranges from a few days to one week, but the exact schedule depends on the product type selected and current production volume. Specialty finishes and larger orders may require additional time. Allow for extra lead time if you need custom formats such as spray paint, epoxy, or urethane. Plan your project timeline accordingly, especially for brand-driven or event-based applications.

What is the best way to compare PMS 8545 C paint samples for color approval?

For reliable color comparison of PMS 8545 C samples, evaluate them under the lighting conditions where they will be used and on the same substrate you plan for the final application. Be sure to let all coatings fully dry and cure, as colors and metallic effects can shift during this process. Use consistent viewing angles when assessing metallic finishes, since reflectance can change based on position. Following these steps reduces surprise and helps ensure accurate brand alignment.

What are the steps to order paint matched to PMS 8545 C on MyPerfectColor?

To order paint matched to PMS 8545 C, start by selecting the paint product type (such as spray paint, paint pen, or brush-in-cap bottle) that best fits your brand or display application. Next, choose the desired sheen and quantity. Review your selections to ensure they meet your project's needs for substrate and finish. If needed, add any options offered for packaging or performance. Verify all information before proceeding to checkout to help avoid common ordering errors.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 8545 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
